Euless, Texas - Christine Marie Gardner drew her last breath in the company of her daughter, Sarah Matt, her son-in-law, Peter Vanderwiel, and her husband, Robert Allen (Rags) Gardner at home on June 28, 2025, at 11 p.m. in Euless, Texas, at age 78 after a 13-month battle with lung cancer.

Christine was born in Manhattan, New York, on May 5, 1947, at Misericordia Hospital. She was the third child of Harry Clifford Joseph and Sarah Teresa (McEnaney) Gort.

She married Randolph (Randy) Warren Matt on June 1, 1968, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Briarcliff Manor, New York. They divorced in 1986.

Christine married Rags Gardner on Nov. 4, 2004, in Euless, Texas.

FC Dallas will honor her memory as the "Inferno Mom" on August 9, 2025, during a match with the Portland Timbers.

Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Harry (1977) and Sarah (1991) Gort as well as her sister Mary Gertrude Gort (1993). She is survived by: spouse Rags Gardner, first husband Randolph Matt, brother Stephen Gort, and his wife, Ellen, brother Raymond Gort, and his wife, Patti, brother Gene Gort, and his husband, Patrick Kennedy, daughter Adrienne Matt, daughter Marcia Matt, daughter Sarah Matt and her husband, Pete Vanderwiel and their son Spencer Vanderwiel, and daughter Deirdre Matt, DPT.

There will be no funeral but a celebration of life. Details will be made available to friends and family when the party has been planned.
