Clarence Dowdy Obituary

Clarence Warren Dowdy

September 10, 1927 - August 9, 2025

Southlake, Texas - Clarence Warren "Dowdy," beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 9, 2025, at the age of 97.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 10, 1927, Dowdy graduated from Poly High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II.

On January 21, 1948, he married the love of his life, Rosie. Their 76 years together were marked by deep devotion and a shared spirit for building both a life and a legacy. The two founded American Tile Supply and grew it from a small operation into one of the largest tile distributors in the countrybuilt on grit and a relentless work ethic.

Dowdy was a devoted member of Glen Garden Country Club, and when the club's future was uncertain, he and two friends purchased it to preserve the place they loved and the lifelong friendships it fostered. You could usually find Dowdy playing golf, dominoes, traveling, or hosting friends and family. He especially cherished time at Possum Kingdom Lake, a place filled with family memories and the laughter of generations.

His knack for storytelling and unmistakable laugh made him unforgettable to all who knew him.

Dowdy is survived by his children, David Dowdy (Cindy), Dianne Poteet (Rick), and Cathy Eden (Bill); grandchildren Nathan (Stephanie), Nolan, Brad, Ashley (Wade), Canda (Omar), Megan (Blake), Brenna (Cody), and Bree; great-grandchildren Kayley (Cole), Colton, Ellie, Ben, Miles, Elizabeth, Charlie, Oliver, and Frankie; and great-great-grandson Brody. He will also be missed by his cherished dog, Sugar, and by countless friends who felt like family.

A celebration of life will be held at White's Chapel in Southlake, Texas, on Friday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas in honor of his great-grandson, Miles Orpinel, at 801 Avenue H East, Suite 101, Arlington, TX 76011, or online at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/clarencedowdymemorial/.

Clarence was one of the best people I have ever worked with. He was my favorite customer. I have so many positive memories of those days. I still share stories about some of my interactions with him and the wisdom I gained. I can hear his laughter now when I think some of those memories.
Rest in Peace Clarence.

Blessed to have known Clarence from times at Glen Garden and men´s golf outings, I always found him to be both sincere and empathetic to those he encountered. Both friendly and intelligent, he was a true joy to be around!
May God bless Clarence in his new home, and may those who continue the Earthly sojourn share a smile of gratitude and joy for having known him!

RIP Mr. Dowdy. You were the nicest man I ever had the pleasure of meeting. You had a heart as big as Texas. I will always cherish our friendship. Reunited with the love of your life, Rosie, must have been a grand reunion. May God watch over your sweet family during this most difficult time
