Dale Byars Obituary

Dale Everett Byars, 53, a prominent businessman, died at home Thursday, July 1, 2004.

Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd., Dallas, with the Rev. Robert H. Thompson officiating. Inurnment: at the church.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lindsay Byars and Monique Byars Education Fund, 5972 Willow Lane, Dallas 75230.

Mr. Byars was born Aug. 7, 1950, in San Angelo to the late J.C. Byars Jr., M.D., and the late Margaret Elsie Dobbins Byars. He graduated from Texas Military Academy and Trinity University in San Antonio. His postgraduate degrees were from Texas A&M University in College Station and Thunderbird International School of Business in Glendale, Ariz. In Algeria he worked for El Paso Gas Corp. and later for CORCO in Puerto Rico and the United States. He was the president of the greeting card companies Caravan International Inc. and EthnoGraphics. He was an active member of numerous professional and civic organizations. During the Clinton administration, he was appointed to a special EPA commission task force.

Survivors: His wife, Cynthia Cox Byars; daughters, Lindsay Michelle Elise Byars and Monique Danielle Evette Byars of Colleyville; brother and sister-in-law, Alan E. Byars and Barbara Master Byars of Midland; sister and brother-in-law, Martha Byars Wetherholt and C. Vic Wetherholt of Canton; cousins, Kenneth E. Smith and Pearl Burleson Smith of Dana Point, Calif.; mother-in-law, Merilyn Cox of Dallas; other relatives; and numerous friends.
