David de Vlaming Obituary

David Louis de Vlaming passed away at age 59 in Fort Worth on Monday, July 20, 2015. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood.
Memorials: The family suggests memorial donations be made to The WARM Place or Meals on Wheel of Greater Tarrant County, both local charities David strongly supported. David was born in Kaufman and was a center on the high school football team, the Kaufman Lions, where he graduated in 1974. Always connected to his hometown, he returned numerous times for family and high school reunions. David attended TCU, where he majored in biology and graduated in 1978. In 1983, he earned his D.D.S. from the University of Texas Dental School in Houston. He was a practicing dentist for more than 27 years, with a strong Fort Worth clientele at his Bryant Irvin location since 1988. David met his lifetime love, Cay, through mutual friends in Fort Worth and married Dec. 3, 1988. As a couple, the de Vlamings loved supporting the Horned Frog football team and were season ticket holders for more than 20 years! They enjoyed traveling with their children to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, their historic Ryan Place neighborhood where they've lived since 1992, hosting annual Memorial Day croquet tournaments and entertaining friends and family. David had a strong passion for old cars and music. He sang and played guitar, keyboard and drums in several bands, including AKA and The Liars. A proud father of twins, Ian and Catherine, David loved being with friends and family, cooking out in his back yard and playing in the pool. His boisterous laugh, engaging smile and witty sense of humor always made others feel welcome and included. David was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and William de Vlaming; and his wife, Cay. Survivors: Children, Ian and Catherine, age 21; brother, Bill, and sister-in-law, Mary; mother-in-law and good friend, Mary Richardson; and a host of loving family and friends. "Roll Those Chains!"

I am at a loss for words...I'm terribly saddened and shocked to learn of Dr. Dave's passing. He was my dentist for more years than I can remember. Ian and Catherine, my heart breaks for you both. I remember when you both were born and how proud Dave was....showing pictures to everyone. Your Mom and Dad had the most loving spirits and you were their world. I know there are no words that will help, so please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ian and Cat,
So sorry to hear about Dave. We were fraternity brothers at TCU. He kindly took me to a Kaufman Lions ball game and a family meal when I was a homesick freshman in 1977.I knew your mom too in the early nineties in Ryan Place. They were a fun, warm , and welcoming couple.Peace to them and to you both.

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD AN APOLOGY, AND A CORRECTION. I THINK I SPELLED CAY'S NAME WITH A "K", INSTEAD OF A "C". I FORGOT SHE SPELLED HER NAME WITH A "C". WE HAD A RUNNING JOKE ABOUT IT, BECAUSE MY YOUNGER SISTER, SPELLS HER NAME, KAMILLE, WITH A K, INSTEAD OF A C. SO I AM USE TO K'S INSTEAD OF C'S. MY APOLOGIES TO CAY. I AM SURE SHE IS CRACKING UP ABOUT THIS IN HEAVEN. SHE ALWAYS HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. YOU SHOULD HAVE HEARD SOME OF HER STORIES ABOUT THE DOGS, THEY WERE A RIOT!

As a family of patients of Dr. DeVlaming for over 20 years, I am saddened by this loss to his children and office staff. He was very special to me and y family Brandi, Chad, Tommy, and Mazel. He always called following a procedure to make sure you were comfortable, and his manner was always a calming effect when as a patient, you were uneasy and scared. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that he was a remarkable dentist and person who will be greatly missed. Carol Everhart, Mansfield, TX
