Donald LeRoy Orr, 92, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 Funeral: 6 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Burleson. Interment: 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Midland. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home. Donald attended Ouachita Baptist University and then volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps and became a fighter pilot in World War II. He served his country in the China-Burma-India theater flying 203 missions. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and three battle stars. He went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he met the love of his life, Violet Rogers, and married. They decided to take their love of music to the mission field as the first music missionaries ever appointed by the International Mission Board and taught at the Seminario Bautista Teologico de Cali, Colombia, for 34 years. Retiring in 1984, he continued serving and praising his Lord as a volunteer with the Texas Baptist Men builders and with the Singing Men of Texas until age 89. He was very active at First Baptist Church of Burleson singing in choir and other ministries. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Violet Lee Rogers Orr.
