Doris Stroman Obituary

Doris Marie Stroman, a loving mother, grandmother and true friend, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at her home.
Funeral: Noon Monday at Moore-Bowen Road Chapel. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane A. Visitation: The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon, prior to the service.
Memorials: The family requests memorials be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 2401 Hazel St., Texarkana, Texas 75503, 903-792-6996.
Mrs. Stroman was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Spring Hill. She was a retired teacher from the Pleasant Grove School district near Texarkana, concentrating most of her years in early childhood education. She developed and instituted the first public school kindergarten in Bowie County. Completing her graduate and undergraduate studies at East Texas State University at Commerce, she also studied in New York City at Columbia University. Mrs. Stroman was a longtime member of Highland Park Baptist Church of Texarkana, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. Her quiet spirit and love of children touched many lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hulen R. Stroman; her parents, H.C. Hamilton and Lottie G. Hamilton; brothers, Horace and Morgan Hamilton; and sister, Winnie Sue Hamilton.
Survivors: Her children, Nicholas Stroman and wife, Sheila, of Conway, Ark., Pamela Keller and husband, Randy, of New Concord, Ky., and Theresa Stroman Smith of Arlington; grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew and Adam Stroman of Conway, Ark., Alexandria Choate and Ian Smith of Arlington; great-grandchild, Holden Choate of Arlington; her sisters, Norma L. Hamilton of Gladewater and Sara J. Gunn of Gilmer; her brother, Barton Hamilton and wife, Sue, of Dekalb; and her sister-in-law, Janie Hamilton of Dekalb.
