Dear Earline,

I met you and Al in the early 80's when I became a CAF member, active with the Marshallers Detachment. Al was such a wonderful presence on the flight line, such a pleasure to visit with and the perfect example of the true hero I wanted my young son to look up to. I offer you and your family my sympathy for your enormous loss.

My father Dick Whitehead, served with Al on the USS Sicily in 1951 during the Korean War and my mother Eileen and I were very sorry to hear of your family's loss. Al had made a video tape of film he shot while on board the Sicily and was so kind to send my mother and I a copy. We were able to see my Dad for a few seconds in the tape as he walked along on the ship's deck. It meant a lot to us to see him on film as he passed away in 1994 and we had no moving video of him. It was a real kindness on Al's part to share his film with my family. I know he and my Dad will be in heaven talking about flying those F4U Corsairs by the seat of their pants and using only a tailhook to land on the deck of the ship.

Our sympathies and prayers go out to all of you in Al's family.

Christine
