Estella was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 10, 1936, to Jose Angel and Virginia Jiménez. Singing and dancing were skills that she possessed from a young age. At six years old, Estella sang on the radio station KFJZ, a star in the making. She graduated from North Side High School in 1955. In October of that year, she met the love of her life at a Halloween party. Leopoldo "Polo" González Jr. was a fortune teller that night and he let her know that she would be marrying him and she did in April of 1956.
As an adult she enjoyed dancing, bowling, bingo, Sudoku, Word Find, puzzles, dominos, cards, watching television, especially "Perry Mason" and taking care of her family. Estella also loved ice cream and sweets. She was a stay-at-home mom for years, at times working part time with her husband at S&H Green Stamps and at La Llave Foam with her brother Andrew. One could find her making tortillas daily along with hot meals for her family. People still remember her awesome cooking. She grew up with us, playing hula hoop, jacks, jump rope, softball, and volleyball. After her children were grown, Estella began working with the City of Fort Worth and retired in 2006.
Anyone who approached her could look forward to a beautiful smile and twinkling eyes. She always said "thank you" to anyone who did anything for her whether it was a big or small act. She was humble and caring. Anytime someone needed help, Estella was ready to assist. One small example of her generosity is when she gave the gloves that she was wearing to a stranger who she felt needed them more than she did. The elderly lady was so happy and grateful to get them. Sending flowers for funerals or making donations to families and charities was a routine event for her. She sent arrangements so regularly that the flower shop set up a code for her special stand-up easel made of red and white carnations with baby's breath and greenery. The code ensured that anyone taking the order would know exactly what she wanted.
Her faith in God was unshakeable. Any night of the week, you would find her sitting at her desk reading the bible. Many enjoyed discussing scripture with her due to her knowledge and perspective. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Cathedral.
Estella was preceded in death by her husband, Leopoldo "Polo" González Jr.; son, Leopoldo "Leo" González III; daughter, Maria Virginia "Mandy" González; granddaughter, Estella "Estelita" González; brothers, Frank, Alfonso, Andrew and Mark Jiménez.
She is survived by her daughters, Yolanda González, Gracie Hewitt (Billy), Nora González and Linda González (Abel); grandsons, Xavier and Rafael "Rale" González; sisters, Gloria Martinez, Mary Angel and Betty Patiño (Rudy); brother, Joe Jiménez (Carol); several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
