Eugene Sholdra Obituary

Eugene P. Sholdra
March 23, 1940 - March 24, 2022
Fort Worth , Texas - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene P. Sholdra on March 24,2022. Eugene died peacefully with his family by his side, after a bravely fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on March 23,1940. Eugene was the beloved husband of Verna (Latimer) for 57 years. He was the loving father to Natasha Sholdra Gray (son in-law Gavin Gray) and Anthony Joseph "Joey" Sholdra. He cherished his role as grandfather to Garrett and Trent Gray who fondly called him 'Papi'. He was a dear brother to Patricia Moore.
He received his medical degree from University of Toronto in 1965 and his postgraduate training for Ophthalmology in 1968. He practiced for twelve years in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada before moving to Fort Worth, Texas and practicing in Weatherford and Fort Worth until he retired in 2018.
'Doc' was quick with a smile, laugh, and a funny story, qualities that will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues. His patients will remember his kindness and empathetic manner. His grandsons will adoringly remember pancake breakfasts, Spanish lessons, and ball games with their Papi. Eugene was a lifetime learner, he loved golf, traveling, photography, and his dogs Maddie and Louie. He shared a passion for music with his son Joey playing the piano, guitar, violin, and most recently the ukulele. Eugene generously dedicated his life to the things he enjoyed most, loving his family, and caring for his patients.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jennie and Peter Sholdra and his sister Frances Sholdra .
The family wishes to thank Dr. Scott Thurman, Dr. Jerry Barker, and Dr.Adam Hollander and their staff at Urology Associates.
A celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date in Niagara Falls.

Verna, we were shocked when we were notified by Patsy. Eugene was such a great person and I liked him from the very first day I met him when he stayed at the Huzels on Barton street. I am so sorry, please accept our deepest condolences. Eugene and my son Douglas will get along well when they meet up. Both great people.

Dear Verna and your extended family. I was so sorry to hear this sad news. I have many wonderful memories with you and Eugene in the 1970s from your days in Ottawa, visits here in Ottawa and Niagara (photos attached). Always a warm smile, a belly laugh and a camera in his hand! Eugene wore his heart on his sleeve, and was loved by so many. He will be missed. Sending love and hugs from Ottawa. You are in my thoughts xo

Eugene was my eldest cousin, although I didn´t have any extended time with him he always impressed with his love of life. I can remember him when I was about 8 years old and he was about 30 and him being fascinated with a how my toy car set Hot Wheels worked and said he wanted to get one of his own. That´s a guy that enjoyed life!
