Florence Peloubet Obituary

Florence Menino Peloubet, 90, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, peacefully in her sleep. Graveside service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Memorials: The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Florence's memory be made to Catholic Charities, 249 Thornhill Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76115. Florence Menino Peloubet was born May 1, 1923, in New Bedford, Mass., to Joao and Malvina Menino. With Portuguese as her first language, she learned English in the New Bedford public schools and distinguished herself academically graduating from Harvard (Radcliffe College) in 1944 with a degree in psychology while mastering French as well. Upon graduation she worked for Liberty Mutual in Boston and later for Rike's Department Store in Dayton, Ohio, where she met her husband, Raymond Peloubet, on a blind date. They were married in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in November 1950 and in 1954 moved to Fort Worth, where Florence started her family. An extraordinary seamstress, she blessed family and friends for decades with beautiful clothes, blankets and quilts. Equally skilled in the kitchen, Florence's house was always filled with friends of her children because there was always something good to eat at Mrs. Peloubet's house and plenty of it. She also enjoyed music and was an accomplished classical pianist playing before a radio audience at the age of 8. As her children left home for college, she returned to work as a fashion buyer for Cox's Department Stores in Fort Worth. A woman of very strong faith, Florence and her husband, Ray, were founding members of Westcliff United Methodist Church, now Arborlawn. "Her children arise and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."--Proverbs 31:28-30 She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ray. Survivors: Sons, John R. Peloubet and wife, Adana, and David C. Peloubet and wife, Victoria; daughter, Lauran Helm and husband, George; grandchildren, Emilie Watson, Olivia Peloubet, Alex Peloubet, Phillip Peloubet, Anna Peloubet, Katie Smith and Abby Helm; great-grandsons, Asa Collins Watson III and Grayson Smith.
