Franklin Douglas Daams, 51, end of watch, Wednesday, September 20, 2006. After a valiant, year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, Doug was called home to be with the Lord.

Celebration of Life: 3 p.m. Sunday at Biggers Funeral Chapel, where the family will be present to receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Silver Creek United Methodist Church in Azle. Burial: 1 p.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Doug asked that donations be made to the building fund of Silver Creek United Methodist Church, 2200 Church Road, Azle, Texas 76020.

Doug was born April 9, 1955, in Mesa, Ariz. He graduated from Pascagoula High School in Mississippi. After graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era as a military police officer. After an honorable discharge from the military, Doug served for 12 years on the Ocean Springs Police Department and Department of Veteran Affairs in Mississippi as a detective and narcotics Agent.

He moved to Texas and married his best friend, Evelyn, in 1989. That same year, Doug joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FCI Fort Worth. He served as a correctional officer and counselor and was a member on the Special Operations Response Team, Firearms Training Team and Hostage Negotiation Team.

Doug was an avid bass fisherman, and was a member of the Big Spring Bass Club. He loved hunting and enjoyed yearly elk hunts with his brother, Dave, and father in Idaho. Doug was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Azle Masonic Lodge.

The family would like to thank Dr. Varadhachary and Dr. Marshall Morrison, all of the staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Harris Methodist Northwest, the employees of F.C.I. Fort Worth and V.A. Outpatient Clinic, Compass Hospice and the members of Silver Creek United Methodist Church for their incredible support, compassion and faith.

Survivors: Doug is survived by his wife, Evelyn Daams, parents, Fred and Shirley Daams of Canon City, Colo.; brother, David Daams of McCall, Idaho; his children, Emily and Jessica of Azle, Danny and Dustin of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and a host of cherished friends and loved ones.

I have thought about what I would say in this entry for several days. I have read our church newsletter this morning for October. "Words from Jason" in this newsletter are so well written and express what all of us are feeling. This past year both of you have shown us a faith that some never reach in a lifetime. You have thanked me many times for the small things that I have done. I thank you now for the blessings you have given me by your witness to God. Love, Nancy Davis

Evelyn,
I have so much love and admiration for you. You and Doug have taught me so many life lessons. I hold you so near and dear to my heart. Your lives have touched so many people. My children still continue to pray for their Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Doug each day. Danielle thinks it is so great that Uncle Doug is a butterfly now like her Grandma.

Evelyn and Family,
I can not tell you how much it means to me to have all of you in my life. Doug was a friend and an inspiration - what an honor to conduct his services! May the lessons he taught all of us live within us as long as we are here.

Evelyn and family,
You are always in my thoughts and prayers. I know that Mom and Doug are having a fine time in heaven as they rant and rave about what a wonderful person God has left here on Earth to help teach his important lessons and to help prepare us for our final destination. Evelyn, I don't know if I have ever let you know how very grateful we all are to you for all you did to help our mother, Marjorie prepare for her final destination. You are truly "my hero" and will always be the best sister-in-law one could ever have.
God will continue to Bless you and provide you with the needed strength in thanks for all you do for the good on man here on Earth.
Love,
Melanie and Family

One of my favorite memories of Doug is when he would come into my office and begin to talk about Evelyn. His face would light up every time he mentioned her name. Anyone he talked to would know that he loved her with everything he had. Most can only dream of being loved like that. God bless you and we never forget, it just gets easier with time.

Doug was a good man, a great father, a wonderful husband and worked hard at his job. When it's all said and done, if most of us could be remembered like this, it would be a better world for sure. God bless.

Finding light during darkness is not easy, but finding inspiration from life is joyous. Remember Doug's life and his love and he will always be with you.
The Lord is healing, all you have to do is ask.

Evelyn, This was such a shock this morning but I knew who the wife was before I ever got to that part because there could only be one and that's you. Kim is in Arkansas for the last two months with friends since Rodger died on 7/25 at the Dallas VA. I have put a call in to her. You know without a doubt that our prayers are with you during this time. You have been such a help with Kimberly these last few years. Just email me or call if you need anything at all because I will help in any way. I submitted a poem that someone sent to me that was very helpful to our family. God bless you. Always remember your best friend is in a better place with many relatives and other friends of both of yours.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
