Genny Ryan Obituary

Genevieve "Crispy" Enbey Ryan journeyed to heaven Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, after suffering a stroke at age 86. She is now rejoicing with her Lord and reunited with her family. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Genny was born on the island ("BOI") in Galveston on Jan. 28, 1926. Genny, husband and daughters settled in Haltom City in 1961. A lifetime Girl Scout for over 50 years, Genny became a leader for her daughter's troop in 1960. She led Troops 318, 506 and 694 for a total of 42 years. Genny liked to say, "I was a Girl Scout leader for 42 years, and that's a lot of girls and a lot of Girl Scout cookies!" In 1965, the family joined Birdville Baptist Church, where Genny remained a faithful member. Genny loved reading the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, doing crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and sharing stories of life. She was in awe of the heavens and earth that God created and loved the trees, birds, turtles and all of God's handiwork. As a young mother, she attended Howard Payne College. As an empty-nester, she attended Tarrant County Junior College-Northeast Campus. Her patriotism included her love for Haltom City. She was a charter member of the Haltom City Garden Club and former member of the Birdville Historical Society. Later in life, she worked at the Education Service Center, Region XI, the Retired Persons Pharmacy of Texas and Panther Chemical Co., retiring in 2002. After retirement, she volunteered for six years at Major Cheney Elementary in south Birdville. In 2006-2007 and again in 2007-2008, she was recognized as the school's Volunteer of the Year. Genny's heart always belonged to her family. Along with her siblings, she started the annual family reunion in 1985. Crispy is now in heaven with her family, including her parents, John Warnick and Letha Marie Lynn Enbey; sisters, Bonnie Jean and Elsie: and brothers, Wallace, Dwight and Pershing. "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." -- John 14:1-2. Survivors: Sister, Helen Enbey Buss of Hot Springs, Ark.; favorite oldest daughter, Susie Lynn Fox and husband, Mark, of Irving; favorite youngest daughter, Robin Estes and husband, Doug, of Keller; grandsons, David Fox, Jimmy Estes and wife, Meagain; granddaughter, Kristen Estes and husband, Christian Torres; grandchildren, C.J. and A.J. Torres, and Adalyn Grae Estes; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews; childhood friend, Mrs. Gertie Hillibrand; and Girl Scout daughters, Deborah Holland, Marilyn Lanini and Vickie McDonald.

Crispy has been a great friend from garden club for several years now. She will be missed by many. I have enjoyed talking with Crispy about family, family history, family reunions, etc. She has a special place in my heart for being a volunteer at South Birdville Elementary. You girls are as sweet as your mother. May you forever be comforted by all your special memories of her!

I have many wonderful memories of Crispy through our adventures in Girl Scouting. She always made me smile and gave the best hugs. I enjoyed our talks at Service Unit meetings, at recruitments and admired her great love for the girls. She touched thousands of lives. She made a difference.
