Georgia was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Gainesville to George and Agnes Elkins. Georgia's heart was in nursing. At the age of 17, she joined the U.S. Nurse Cadet Corps in 1944. She graduated from Dallas Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and passed her exam to become a registered nurse in 1947. She represented the registered nurses and solicited votes before the House in Austin for the first Nursing Practice Act in Texas. She worked in hospitals or as a private duty nurse in Idaho, Wyoming, South Carolina, Arkansas and, finally, in Texas until 1972. She then became the director of Private Duty Bureau for Registered Nurses in Tarrant County until 1976. She had many wonderful memories of her parents as well as adventures with her brother and sisters on the farm. She married her love of a lifetime, Marvin Sowell, on April 3, 1948. She had looked forward all year to seeing Marvin again in heaven. She was the mother of two children and a devoted stepdaughter. Her church family meets at University Church of Christ.
Survivors: Son, Randy Sowell and wife, Lesa, of McCamey; daughter, Jeanlee Allen and husband, George, of Crowley; stepdaughter, Bonnie Sue Davis and husband, Jimmy, of Brandon, Miss.; brother, Harvey Elkins of Irving; sisters, Margaret Biffle and Wanda Britton, both of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
