Ann Lipsitt
October 15, 2022
This is Ann Lipsitt, Lew and Edna Lipsitt's daughter. I am just now learning of Hayne's passing or I would have been in touch sooner. Hayne was like a member of our family and I grew up knowing his name and his personality as he spent a lot of time with my Dad and often stayed with us in our home. I always enjoyed our times together, as a little kid and as an adult. While my dad's health was changing in the past few years, he often asked me to try to locate Hayne, but I could not find an email address. I wish I could have made that connection for them. My mother and I send our condolences to all of Hayne's family. If you should want to be in touch with us, my email address is: [email protected] In case you would like to read my father's obituary, it is at this address: https://www.providencejournal.com/obituaries/f0060235

Hayen and I were close friends for 55 years. We met when Hayne -- already an established Full Professor -- hired me -- a new Ph.D. -- as Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo. After a couple of years, we began collaborating writing and publishing articles. From there our friendship grew as, over the years. Along with publishing, we attended many psychological conferences together, gave many presentations together, had numerous dinners and drinks together, shared uncountable laughs together, and most of all spent hours upon hours discussing basic principles that are foundational to all psychological theories and empirical methods.
Hayne was a brilliant scholar, reflective and catholic in his knowledge of all things psychological. But Hayne's interests were much broader than psychology. I remember many discussions involving art, natural history, his love of animals, and his love of cooking, and on.
Above all else Hayne was a fine human being and a great friend. He was gracious, warm, friendly, giving and he loved having a good time. His style was laconic, and his wit was dry, but once one came to know him these characteristics simply added to his attractiveness.
Hayne will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Hayne was a brilliant man -- a walking encyclopedia on matters having to do with psychology. Kind, always willing to help. I was a graduate student 50 years at WVU when he taught there and he changed my life (as did his wife Nancy who cared by my daughter in her child care facility). He will be missed
