Hazel Skjersaa Obituary

Hazel LaRue Skjersaa passed away at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Gotha, Fla.
Memorials: may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 988 Woodcock Road, Suite 200, Orlando, Fla. 32803.
She was born Hazel LaRue Erby on Oct. 4, 1922, in Fort Worth to the late Henry and LaRue Kiker Erby. Hazel grew up in Fort Worth, where she graduated valedictorian at TCU. Hazel also graduated from Cornell University and the University of Florida.
When World War II started, she worked at Consolidated and then went into the Air Force where she became a nurse. She met Norman Skjersaa while in the Air Force and they married on Aug. 2, 1958, in Fairfield, Calif. She worked as the store nurse for Montgomery Ward, the first nurse in 1969â€"70 at the construction site of Disney World and as a nursing instructor at Valencia Community College.
Mrs. Skjersaa was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Skjersaa.
Survivors: Her sons, Jan and Karl Skjersaa, both of Orlando, Fla.; and her sisters, Mildred Payne and Betty Riddell, both of Fort Worth.
