Herbert Carl Borgmann was born May 20, 1923, in rural Athol, Kan. After grade and high school, he enrolled at the University of Kansas in 1941. World War II interrupted his education, and he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942, and ended up as a B-24 pilot, where he won the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and participated in the Unit Presidential Citation, flying missions over Germany out of Hardwich, England. In 1945, he transferred to the active Reserve where he served until 1969.
Herb graduated from the University of Kansas in 1947 and immediately went to work for Swift & Co., where he worked in plant management until 1972. His responsibilities included a margarine plant in Kansas City; assistant refining manager in Kansas City; and plant and regional manager of Swift edible oil plants in Fort Worth and Harvey, La.
In 1964, he moved his family to Fort Worth and they joined Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1976, he joined Wins Paper Products Inc. and retired from the company in 1996. He was married to Billie Borgmann since July 1983.
He belonged to the Air Force Association, the Retired Officers Association, the American Legion, Woodhaven Country Club and Peace Lutheran Church since 1997.
Herb was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Charles Kee, in 1990; and granddaughter, Charlotte Anne Kee, in 1998.
Survivors: Wife, Billie Borgmann of Fort Worth; daughter, Nancy Kee of Dallas; granddaughter, Elisa Jackson and husband, Bob, of Farmington, N.M.; stepson, Wayne Boydston and wife, Gay; stepdaughter, Beverly Gutierrez of Beaumont; great-grandsons, Wesley and Dylan Jackson; four stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
