Iris Kidd Obituary

Iris Gwenda Kidd

December 9, 1929 - February 9, 2024

Grapevine, Texas - Gwenda Kidd, 94, passed away last Friday morning on February 9th. Until 3 months ago she remained fiercely independent in her own home, when finally she decided to seek care for mounting health problems.

Visitation is from 6 to 8pm Thursday February 15th at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington. Her funeral service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday morning at 10am.

Iris Gwenda Kidd was born in Dallas to Clarence Egbert and Bonnie Nell McKinney Page on December 9, 1929. She courted and married a young Navy Veteran, David L. Kidd, on August 27, 1949 and they built a life together for 58 years. Gwenda was a homemaker for the first part of her married life and raised their children, Shryl, Kathy, and Douglas in Arlington Texas. For most of her long life Gwenda was able to keep in touch with friends from as far back as elementary school and First Baptist Church where she loved her Sunday School class and singing in the Choir. She sang in several trios and was also a soloist. She was an artist, an excellent seamstress, a gardener, a consummate hostess, she loved Thanksgiving and Christmas and Gwenda had a passion for politics. She was a lifelong and outspoken Democrat and whether you were the plumber or her best friend, you could count on her to press you on your politics and tell you why you should vote Democrat! In the 60's Gwenda was president of the Tarrant County Democratic Women's Club. In the late 70's Gwenda earned an Associate Degree in Accounting followed by her Real Estate license and worked for Henry S. Miller thru the 80's. Distractions followed in the form of 3 grandkids which she considered to be her greatest achievement in life. They are all grown, but the baggie of grandkid pictures that she still carried was her proof of a life well done.

Gwenda is survived by her children, Shryl Kidd Wimpy, Kathy L. Kidd, Douglas Brian Kidd and his wife Lorena; grandchildren Drew Wimpy, Natalie and Brian Kidd, with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mission Arlington.
