Its almost been a year since Mr. Escalante passed and yet his lessons continue to resonate in my life 20 years after. I truly would like to tell his family that I am so thankful to them for sharing him with his students. When he was at school he was always on! But twenty years ago I didn't much wonder about what he did when he went home. You were truly his support. Thank You, Thank You!

As an educator, teaching English at a very challenging school, I often used "Stand and Deliver" as a tool to inspire my students to work to their full potential. I was very saddened to know that Mr. Escalante had indeed passed away! He was a great teacher, and because of him, I go to school everyday with the sole purpose of educating and inspiring my own students. Thank you Mr. Escalante!! R.I.P.

What measures the worth of a man's life? Is the legacy he leaves behind for others to grow on. Mr. Escalante has left alot for many to follow as an example when it come to dealing with people from all backgrounds. He saw what could be and he work toward that goal. My condolences to the Escalante family.
He is healing the broken hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots.

To the Escalante Family,
You have my deep sympathy and condolence on the loss of your loved one.
One of a teachers best tools is the ability to adapt to their surroundings and still accomplish what they set out to do. Jaime proved this fact all the days that he taught.
The Apostle Paul proved this at 1 Corinthians 9:22,23:...I have become all things to people of all sorts, that I might by all means save some... for the sake of the good news...
May that good news found at John 3:17, help your family as it has helped countless others.

As an educator I use the movie "Stand and Deliver" to inspire my students and my own children. Jaime Escalante will live through his students and his movie that continues to touch many lives. My deepest condolences to his family. We are all truly blessed because you allowed him to share his gift with all of us.

Though I never had the honor of meeting Jaime Escalante personally, I always admired him from afar because of his ability to triumph in teaching inner-city students whom I also teach. The movie, "Stand and Deliver" that portrays Escalante's teaching has been popular amongst the Mathematics Departments in the schools where I have taught in L.A. County. It introduces human problems and conditions as well as offers the possibility of student success inspiring both educators and students.

I never knew Jaime Escalante, nor did I see the movie, "Stand and Deliver." However, Jaime Escalante was an inspiration to me as a Simi Valley educator, as was he an inspiration to ALL educators. The many times he was featured in the news and in specials...his story would help to make a difficult job workable. May he rest in peace, as he was a giant in the field of education. May God welcome him home! My condolences to the Escalante family. May God bless and comfort you at this time.

I'm a teacher, and I can relate to being attached to my students. Every year it's hard to say goodbye. When you genuinely care for your students, they sense it without question and reciprocate the same feeling. No doubt Mr. Escalante has some former students who are very sad right now. My heart goes out to them and his family members. (Rev. 21: 3,4)

For Jaime...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...

To the family of Jaime Escalante, please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I did not know Mr. Escalante personally, but like so many I was moved and inspired by the movie "Stand and Deliver". It was such a wonderful story and I can only imagine how proud you are of him, and how much he will be missed by his friends and family. I hope it's a comfort to know that he also lives in the memory of our loving God Jehovah. John 5:28 & 29 tells us of that wonderful promise when God will bring back our loved ones to a restored paradise on earth. (Psalms 37:11)

To the family of Jaime Escalante-
I would like to send my love and prayers to you. Your loved one inspired me to be better and give more. I have a math degree and I am an AFrican American. Every time I watch the movie "Stand and Deliver" I am encouraged to help our inner-city youth with free math tutoring. So thank you Mr. Escalante. May God rest his soul and bring comfort to his family and friends.
God bless.

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

To the Escalante Family:
Please accept my condolences. Even though I didn't know him personally, I surely knew him for what he stood for. He stood for Justice and Equality and the right for every student to have the chance to get the best education possible. I appreciate his beliefs and his willingness to stand for those inner city kids when no one else cared. We surely need more caring people like him, who is willing to step out of the box and just help.
It's hard enough being a minority in this time, but to have someone to stand up for the children and help them and motivate them and push them without judging, but caring, is to be remembered. I'm so glad they made a movie about him. I hope others will be moved to step up and out of the box.
He really reminds me of another man that was called a Great Teacher. He stepped up! His name was Jesus Christ.
He was a real good educator, and what he taught has and will continue to help those who listen and apply the things learned. He loved people, especially young ones.
He has in so many words told and showed us what can be done when you care. It has movtivated me to sacrafice more of myself to help others who really are in need. Also, not to judge other. And most of all, all need a chance in life for the best. Jesus Christ has left us the best information to be had.
We have so much to be thankful for, may God give you strength to cope with such a great loss. My prayers are with you and your family.

Our Sincerest condolences to the family of a superb educator and one who inspired everyone to understand that all students can achieve.
We in San Benito County LULAC had the greatest opportunity to visit Garfield High School and witness for ourselves the motivation in his teachings. We will never forget taking 22 students, 4 teachers and our local newspaper reporter to Garfield in 1991 and what a memorable trip that was which made headline news in our community.
We were again inspired when in 1993 Mr Escalante came to Hollister and was our Cinco de Mayo keynote speaker, we later visited his classroom at Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento.
Those memories will never be forgotten by our students who were inspired by Mr. Escalante and today many are teachers.
His passing is such a great loss but when we think back in what he taught us, that GANAS can get us to achieve anything that is in our hearts.
Que descanse en Paz y que Dios lo tenga en su Gloria.
Thank you Jaime Escalante!

Mi más sentido pésame a ustedes. I did not know Jaime personally, but have always been touched by the story of his wonderful teaching, as portrayed in "Stand and Deliver". His passing has struck a chord in me, in the wake of my own wife's death to cancer last year. And like Jaime, she too was a teacher of the underprivileged (in her case, prison inmates) who challenged, nurtured, and inspired her students (and by example, her coworkers) to do their best. And so my sympathies go to you, his family and friends, during this difficult time, also knowing full well that his legacy of love and caring will persist long after his mortal presence.

AMAZING !!..............the kids he taught excelled beyond their wildest dreams and our wildest dreams....but not Mr. Escalante's. It seems he looked out on his sea of students and only saw the potential in them. He saw them as achievers, survivors and bound for glory. How fortunate his students were who went along for his mysterious and miraculous academic ride. It will be forever impossible to measure how many lives he changed and then onto the next generation of children born to his high achieving students. The affect and imprint he imparted to his students would have ripple effects way beyond just those he taught. He left this world a much better place and he made the most of his own God-given talents and shared it with all he came in contact with. Rest In Peace.

Mr. Escalante.
I graduated from Garfield High School in 1960 during a time when very few teachers had the desire to "push" students to excel. If only the "desire" had been instilled in me as Mr. Escalante did for numerous students in later years, I might have achieved my dream. As it was, my math and calc kept me from going "all the way". Thank you for your burning desire for students to rise out of the bario to a far greater life. May the Lord bless you in abundance, Jaime Escalante.

Can’t comprehend just how sad you must feel
For the loss of someone you love.
This sorrowful time must still feel unreal
And you’re looking for strength from above.
I hope, from my heart, that your pain will decrease,
That your spirit will gain strength again,
And I pray that your faith will create inner peace
And that God will send blessings--Amen.
Till then, if you need me to lighten your load,
I’m waiting to come to your aid.
Just call on me, and I’ll walk down that road,
Until the dark times start to fade.
Deep condolences,
A friend in Connecticut

I am so sorry to hear of this loss. Mr. Escalante has made such an impact in many students and his friends and family must miss him dearly. Our God, though, has given us hope for seeing our loved ones again. In John 5: 28, 29 it tells us, " All those in the memorial tombs will hear his [Jesus] vioce and come out". What a marvelous hope to look forward to. My condolences to the family.

Mr. Escalante was an inspiration to me. I teach in a school with some of the neediest children who don't have much chance of a future unless I believe in them and push them as he did. I know there is hope thanks to him!

My sympathy goes out to the Escalante family. My thoughts and prayers also be with your family during this time of bereavement. I did not know Jaime Escalante personally but I know you must have been dear to many. I know words bring little comfort but I hope these will help to soothe the pain. (2 cor. 1:3,4)

To the Family of Don Jamie: We were both inducted into the Teacher's Hall of Fame. No matter how hard I try I doubt I'll ever be half the teacher he was/is. Even now that he has crossed over to the other side, he continues to teach.

To his former students:
You now hold the flame he ignited within you. Keep it lit and pass it on with the intensity, love, and respect he laid upon you! You are truly blessed to have been taught by such a caring, giving man!

Our family sends its deepest respect to Jaime Escalante's family. In these times of more bloated bureaucracy and inertia in the teaching profession, he cut a path to learning.
