James Goad Obituary

James Goad passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Morgan Hamilton of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment immediately follows in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider a donation to Peace Lutheran Church, 941 Bedford Euless Road, Hurst, Texas, 76053 or Commemorative Air Force (preservation of flying history of the A-26 "Night Mission"), 505 NW 38th St., #33S, Fort Worth, Texas, 76106, or Vintage Flying Museum, P.O. Box 820099, Fort Worth, Texas, 76182. Following graduation from Union Mills High School in Union Mills, Ind., Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1955-58. Mary Jane and Jim married May 3, 1958. With a wife and a '57 Chevy, Jim was ready to chart his life-path. Two years later they were blessed with a son, Brian. Jim began a career in sales with Allis Chalmers Sales and Service in La Porte, Ind. He joined Lubrication Engineers in Fort Worth in 1968 and retired after 33 years. His love for aviation extended to the Vintage Flying Museum, Fort Worth, where he did whatever he could to help get the B-17 "Chuckie" flying and assisted with educational programs at the museum. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol where he volunteered his talent as an emergency services pilot for over 10 years. As an avid aviation enthusiast, Jim became well-known as the affable pilot of the Vultee BT-15, a World War II Army Air Corps trainer aircraft, affectionately known as "Little Noodle"! Jim tirelessly demonstrated this aircraft for the Commemorative Air Force at numerous airshows and events throughout the Southwest for almost 20 years. More recently, he was an advocate for the restoration of an A-26 light bomber used in World War II and other conflicts and was thrilled to see its success on the air show circuit in 2016. He was a member of AFHEC tractor club and served on the board. Many friends will remember how Jim hooked up an ice cream maker to the power take-off on a Farmall A tractor that could produce five gallons of ice cream at a time. He enjoyed taking the "ice cream tractor" to family reunions in Indiana and to local fund raisers. He loved Texas Rangers baseball, enjoyed listening to classical music, sharing time with Daisy the cat, playing solitaire and wondering if he had more goldfinches at his feeder than his friend did. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Ruth Stolte of Bourbon, Ind., and Delores Zeisig of La Porte, Ind.; and infant brother, Frank Goad. Survivors: Jim is survived by his spouse of 58 eight years, Mary Jane Spear Goad; son, Brian (Karen Adams Brinkley) of North Richland Hills; brothers, Raymond "Gene" Goad (Janet, deceased) and Dwight Goad (Bea), both of Union Mills, Ind.; sister, Marylin Goad Holman of La Porte, Ind.; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim was our friend and neighbor for 41 years. He was energetic, jovial, helpful and always loved sharing the latest joke he had heard. The neighborhood has lost one of our best. He will be greatly missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He was one of the nicest, kindest, most decent men I've ever known. The memories I have of him as our neighbor and friend (particularly when I was a child) brings a smile to my face. From the honeybees to the planes he had such passion about, his great sense of humor and everything in between, it was a pleasure to have known him. I'm sure there will be quite the reunion in heaven with him and Nina and the all others whom have passed that he cared so much for.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

One thing I always enjoyed about Civil Air Patrol back in the 1980s was the prospect of hanging out with Jim. He was a true icon, always a pleasure to be around. I know that I speak for everyone, when I say he'll live in each of us, always.

I was so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He was one of the nicest, kindest, most decent men I've ever known. It was hard...impossible, actually...to be around Jim without smiling. That's just what he brought out in people. This world was a better place because of Jim. RIP my friend.

Mary Jane and Brian,
So sorry to hear of Uncle Jim's passing. He always had a smile on his face and his quick wit and jokes were always a highlight. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

We always enjoyed telling each other jokes at airshows. Our best memory was duet singing/performing in grass skirts/wigs. for the stage productions of "South Pacific"
You are missed and our Lord Jesus now has another mission for you.

One of Jimbos best stories is when late one evening he was on patrol with the mighty BT. He sported a lone Zero (piloted BT Buddy Cooksey). As Jim would tell it the Zero ever has a chance. The last he saw was there was a trail of white smoke. Jim did not want to do a victory roll because there was too much junk in the back seat.

I thoroughly enjoyed flying with Jim. Beginning with the Mid America Air Group PT-26 through the CAF BT-15. Jim was a great pilot and fun to be around. He will be missed.

Mary Jane and Brian -- my deepest sympathy to you on Jim's passing. Of course, how could he not always be with you in memories of his love, wit, and caring. Always one of my favorite people. Melva Pearce-Meador

I will always remember my Uncle Jim for his sense of humor, his endless supply of jokes, and his compassion for friends and family. Even living so far away, Uncle Jim and Aunt Mary Jane made it to as many graduations and weddings as possible for all of his nieces and nephews in Indiana. He was there through several difficult family times for his brother-n-law Ralph (my dad) and his sister Ruth (my mom), and had a way of making those times easier for all of us. Love you Uncle Jim, may you rest in peace. Your niece Debi (Stolte) Powell.
