Graveside Service: 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, in Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Memorials: Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund 1-800-953-5855. James was a three-year Navy Air Corps veteran and served in the South Pacific and Japan during World War II. James attended the University of Texas, Texas A&M University and East Texas State University. Russell began his professional career as owner and operator of Service Center Engineering, a company repairing and installing industrial air conditioning systems. After 15 years James, sold his company to a close friend of his. James began another professional career with the Fort Worth ISD at Green B. Trimble Technical High School. While continuing to teach and instruct various positions, he diligently earned his master's degree in school as teacher and coordinator of industrial cooperative training and developing skills for industry. James loved reading and music. He was an accomplished drummer with Hella Drum and Bugle Corps and enjoyed writing poems. He also had a deep, abiding love for God, and felt that love provided him the strength to endure many hardships as well as achieved heights he never dreamed possible.
Survivors: Wife, Vinita Louise Russell; sister, Wanda Dellis and husband Dennis; daughters, Devorah Brock and husband David, Courtney Ridings and husband Stan; son, James R. Russell.
