James Ivan Thornton, Jr.

Fort Worth, Texas - James Ivan Thornton, Jr., 78, passed away July 30, 2022.
He was born in Lubbock and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth. Ivan received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Stanford University where his love of California wine began.
Ivan led an illustrious, 40-year financial career spanning Skelly Oil, Cooper Industries, Crutcher Resources, Husic Capital Management and Artemis Advisors in New York, where he was managing member and general partner. He retired and moved back to Texas to follow his passion of wine by forming Grape Passion LLC, a successful wine distributing company.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, James Ivan Thornton, Sr., and Margaret Thornton.
He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon Thornton Mills and husband, Jason of The Woodlands and Alexis Thornton Goodson of Helotes; five grandchildren, Grayson Margaret Mills, Jackson Walker Mills, James Kristopher Goodson, Emma Alexis Goodson and Brady Flint Goodson; and his partner of 20 years, Valerie Vicente.
Ivan was an avid reader, wine collector, supporter of the Arts and friend to many. He will be greatly missed both personally and professionally.
There will be a private graveside service and a Celebration of Life at a later date. Donations may be made in memory of Ivan to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
