Pine, Colorado - John Edward Childers, age 68, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 at his home in Pine, Colorado surrounded by family who loved him very much.
John was born in LaPorte County, Indiana December 14, 1952 and grew up in Chesterton - graduating from Chesterton High School, Chesterton Indiana in 1970.
A lifelong Master Mechanic, John moved to Pine, Colorado from Texas in 2016 with family to enjoy his retirement in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. He loved the hummingbirds, the deer, the elk, the amazing seasons and scenery… and he adored hopping around the mountain community in his Jeep. He loved basketball, football - and was very proud of his fantasy football team he co-managed, The Stings.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend - and will be sorely missed.
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Wanda Childers - and his beloved wife, Rosslyn "Roz" Childers. He is survived by his son, Jason Edward Childers and grandchildren, Chastity, Riley, Bryson and Emma; his brothers, Gary Childers, Bill Childers, David Childers and Mark Childers; as well as his immediate family, brother and sister-in-law, Loman and Betty Barnett; niece, Erica Roman and husband, Robert Roman; great-nephews, Jonny and Charlie Roman; a nephew and extended family in Texas he loved very much, Clayton and Meri Beth Miller and children, Aubrey, Evan and Kalynn - and numerous other extended family members and friends in Indiana, Texas and Colorado.
In accordance with John's wishes, private arrangements will be taken care of by Evergreen Memorial Park, Evergreen Colorado.
John was a lover of animals and had rescued many from streets and shelters over the years. He leaves behind his beloved cat and daily guardian, Ouija. She brought him so much joy. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions in John's name to Intermountain Humane Society, 67318 US Hwy 285, Pine Colorado, 80470. We felt John would approve of this choice and would be proud to extend his legacy of helping animals without homes in the mountain community he loved so dearly.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of memories, kind words and support during this difficult time.
