John Merrett Obituary

John Wesley Merrett, 64, died at noon Sunday, April 14, 2013. He was a Fort Worth businessman who worked in sales and as a brick mason. His brickwork can be seen throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Service: will be private. Born in Fort Worth on Feb. 4, 1949, he was the son of Jack W. Merrett and Goldie Hulsey Merrett. He was a graduate of R.L. Paschal High School in Fort Worth. He attended Tarrant County Community College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in May 1969 where his specialty and rank were aviation storekeeper petty officer second class. Sgt. Merrett served until his honorable discharge in January 1973. While in service, he received the National Defense Service Medal. While in the Navy and stationed in Pensacola, Fla., he met and married Ann Cox of Savona, N.Y. The couple later divorced after having one daughter, Tammy Mae Merrett. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack W. "Bill" Merrett Jr. Survivors: Mr. Merrett is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Merrett-Murry and Robert Murry; and a grandson, William Murry, all of St. Louis, Mo. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Merrett Purselley and Dwain Purselley of Malakoff, and Jackie Davis and Roland Davis of Mustang, Okla.; sister-in-law, Barbara Lyday Merrett of Dallas; six nieces and nephews, Carl Dwain Jr. "Dee" Purselley of Athens, Texas, Daniel Purselley of Eustace, and Ricky Purselley of Athens, Stacie Campbell-Davis Lamarche of Bedford, Clayton Campbell of Santa Monica, Calif., Paige Merrett of Dallas; and cousins, Mike Asay of Azle and Karen Praytor of Watauga.
