Dear Mixon Family, I just learned today of the huge loss of Johnny Mixon. I was his secretary many years ago, but I've never forgotten such a wonderful man to work for. He was a joy to work with and be around and I know you must miss him terribly. You are in my prayers. I promise you he will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to you. Dear Mixon Family,
I am so sorry to learn belately of John's death. He was one of my very best friends in high school tho sadly we had not been in contact for years. I knew him as Johnny and we shared many youthful adventures. We walked from Moultrie to Tifton once which was about 27 miles. We shared a few beers camping out and yet managed to stay on top of our studies. John and I were two of Moultrie High's National Merit Scholars. I was at his wedding in Macon in 1969?
I can't believe he's gone.
God bless you all.

Penny, Brooke, and Shelley,
I still can't believe John is gone. As you already know, he was a wonderful man with a quick wit, a light in his eyes, and an open heart and home for those less fortunate. We have many wonderful memories. I still have your family in my thoughts and prayers

Dear Penny, Brooke and Shelley,
We were stunned and saddened to hear about the significant loss of your husband and dad. John was a good friend and legal advisor to our family for many years. He provided such comfort to our family during the loss of our parents. John was a wonderful man who cared deeply for his family, friends and furry friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a keen intellect. We had planned a trip back to Arlington this spring to visit friends and were pending lunch with John. He will be sorely missed. Penny, although we are physically here in Colorado, our spirit is with you and yours. Take good care...Curtis, Ann, Ryan and Matthew Mayes

Penny, Brooke, & Shelley, Steve Patterson just sent me the news. I am so saddened for you; I do know your pain. Time is the major thing that will help, but that isn't very comforting now. Celebrate John's life but don't worry about him; he is ok. I have come to believe that dying isn't hard on the person who dies; but it is hell on those left behind. Take care of yourselves & know you are in the hearts & minds of your friends.

I was saddened to read about John's death this morning. I'm not sure if you remember me or not. My name is Tommy, I painted your house several times. Of all the customers I've had over the years, you were one of the few families I have never forgotten. I remember the girls running around the house in their nightgowns, laughing and playing. You were one of the nicest, friendliest families I have ever had the privelege to work for. I was also sorry to hear about Paige's accident. It broke my heart to hear about her death. There are some things that we never get over, but with God's help we can get through them.

P.S. this is a poem my wife wrote when my dad died. I hope it brings you some comfort.
Why do we cry
When a loved one passes away
We weep and we mourn
And ask God for one more day
We tell Him there wasn't enough time
To tell them just how we felt
We say it wasn't fair
This hand that we were dealt
But the tears we shed aren't for our loved one
He can't see them hit the ground
No, we cry selfishly
Because we want him still around
But given the choice between Heaven and earth
Where do you think he'd rather be
In a body wracked with pain and suffering
Or fishing beside the Crystal Sea
So cry because you'll miss him
Mourn because you can't see his face
But walk hand in hand with Jesus
And you'll meet him in that better place

Penny, Brooke, & Shelley ... I know there is little that can be said at a time of great loss like this. My father suddenly passed away at 58, and it seemed so surreal. All I can say is remember the good times with John ... the tennis, the trips, the movies, the rescue dogs, and his great wit ... and know that we are thinking about you guys. Love, the Patterson's
