Karen Stanford Obituary

Karen Jeannine Stanford
August 7, 1959 - March 22, 2022
Fort Worth, Texas - Karen Jeannine Stanford
The warmest, most loving, caring and encouraging mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Jeannine never let a day go by without letting those closer to her know how much she loved them. A devoted Christian, Jeannine had endless talents and passions. Her house is full of beautiful furniture she designed herself. Her true talent was cooking. Not only did she have a love of food, but she was a phenomenal cook; when she baked, she'd make enough for everyone she loved (so we're talking Texas-sized batches of chocolate chip cookies!). She's worked as a cabinet maker, a photographer and more recently at Chase Bank. She's a Texan (a feisty one) through and through and lived in White Settlement most of her life, though she loved venturing to the Hill Country, visiting its many vineyards. She was also an incredible gardener, taking the skill from her dad and passing it down to her kids. Her favourite flower was hibiscus – a radiant beauty just like her, but we'd say she was a true Texas yellow rose. Jeannine was preceded in death by her brother, Berry Loyd 'Skipper' Stanford; parents, Ima Mae and Loyd Stanford. Survivors: son, Marshall DeThample; daughters, Skipper Cowley, Robin DeThample-DeFalco and Rachel DeThample; brother Mike Stanford; sister Carmen Lane; nine grandchildren. Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Monday April 4th 2022 in the Chapel at Greenwood Funeral Home. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday April 3rd 2022 at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, TX 76107.

I stumbled across this obituary by happenstance and I can't begin to tell you how deeply saddened I am to hear about Jeannine's passing. As I read through it, I realized that the time that I knew her was a very small slice of her life and that there was so much more to her that I never got to know or see. However, I knew her at a very formative time of my life. I dated her daughter for three years and while I did she welcomed me as part of her family. As I spent time with and around her, there was no doubt of the love she had for her children. At that time she was a single mom working insanely hard to support her kids. I remember she took a second job delivering the Fort Worth Star telegram and I would work with her to help her get her route done. We would both get up at 3am after working another job. Drunk from tiredness, we enjoyed a lot of laughs and good times doing that miserable job. She always seemed to find a way to smile and laugh even when she was struggling. She introduced me to Bob Seager and the Silver Bullet Band, I am forever indebted to her for that. There isn't a time that I hear "Against the Wind" that I don't think about that time of my life. I tried to stay in touch, but life happens. It's hard to believe that the last time I saw any of the family Jeanine was younger than I am now. Rachel, Robin, Marshall, and Skipper, please know that I am deeply sorry for your loss and although I haven't talked to any of you in over two decades, y'all are in my thoughts frequently. Your Mom was an incredible person and the impact she had on the world was a positive one. For me, as I transitioned from a kid to a young man, she taught me just how important resiliency, a positive attitude, and hard work are. I will always remember her fondly and am so appreciative of the little time that I got to be around her.
