Mrs Canafax taught music at Westcliff Elementary when I was in 4th-5th grade. Sweet-natured, passionate about music, & patient, she helped instill a life-long love of classical music in a thirsty young mind. One of my favorite teachers. So privileged to know her.

The first time I met Louise was in 1980 when she was one of a number of FWSO musicians who played with the orchestra at my church for a special presentation. I shall never forget her kindness and encouragement to me, a seventh-grade violinist. She was the first to tell me about Sigma Alpha Iota, and I was part of the FW Alumnae Chapter for a time when she was one of its leaders. Also I shall always remember her and Mr. Studdard, stand partners in the FWSO viola section. We wind players learn so much from our string-playing colleagues, and Louise was one of those who inspired me. Rest in peace, Louise. I raise my glass to you and think of you when I see the red rose of SAI.

Louise was such a dear person. I knew her through Weatherford relations, and she taught my children music at Trinity Valley. We visited countless times at concerts, and I know she will be greatly missed at the Cliburn competition this year. May God rest her beautiful soul.

Louise has been my neighbor for the past ten years. Though we didn't see each other often, she was always a ray of sunshine when we did meet...usually in the front yard. Her interest in my life was a breath of fresh air because it was so genuine. I didn't know for a long time that she was ill. What I DID notice was that she was never alone for one minute since she became so ill. I think it's a wonderful tribute that so many of her family and friends took such excellent care of her until the end. This world has lost a wonderful and talented lady...heaven has gained a saint! Goodbye, Louise...until we meet again.

One year when I was manager of the NH Music Festival, I picked up Louise at the airport. Knowing her to be meticulous, I cleaned the car inside and out. It was hot and I didn't have AC, so after awhile I told her to pull on her air vent, and I did the same. Out crackled and flew a fall and winter's worth of pine needles and leaf litter! Exuberant is my word for Louise. - Brenda Conklin

My family knew Louise from the New Hampshire Music Festival, where she lived a couple doors down from us every summer. She was one of the people I most looked forward to seeing each season.

Mrs. Canafax was my music teacher at Westcliff in the early 60's. She taught us a love of classical music but also the story behind the music. She was a loving, caring and very dedicated teacher. She was loved by many students through the years and she will be missed. Rest in Peace.

Dearest Louise Canafax. I was blessed to have Ms. Canafax as my 3rd grade music teacher at Trinity Valley where she taught me to play the recorder and the xylophone. She was an intense teacher with high expectations, and as I grew older I realized how big a heart she had for us. I am grateful for the many years we had together as student and teacher, and even more valuable was the way she ALWAYS showed so much interest in me and my brother for more than 35 years. She was a loving friend of my parents, and they enjoyed their work with the Van Cliburn Foundation immensely. My 9 year old son, Kia, now plays piano and upright bass, having just completed his first recital, talent show and strings concert this year. Louise, my dear, your spirit has been with me for 38 years and your spirit has been with my son as his father respects, enjoys and values music education so deeply because of your lifelong passion for children and music. Forever grateful, dear sweet Louise. Thank you for smiling and laughing every time we kidded with you in school as "Ms. Candlewax." May you now be with the peace of the Lord and know how much you were loved, honored and cherished by so many for all these wonderful years.

I met Louise when she was my son's music teacher at Trinity Valley School. She shared her love of and enthusiasm for music with those young students and exposed them to classics they otherwise might not have heard. I saw her so many times through the years--organizing the musicians for a friend's funeral, working at the Van Cliburn Competition, and attending concerts. I always felt that if there was wonderful music going on in Fort Worth, Louis Canafax would be around somewhere. She was always gracious and lovely. We will miss her.

Mrs. Canafax was my teacher at South Hills, just before she moved to Trinity Valley. She was, by far, the most influential teacher I ever had. She made learning so very exiciting, and I have thought of her, and spoken of her often throughout the years. What a remarkable person she was!

Mrs. Canafax was the music teacher at South Hills Elementary before she moved to Trinity Valley. I have always been thankful to her for exposing me to classical music at a very impressionable age. I was lucky enough to hear her play with the Fort Worth Symphony many times. The image of this stunning redhead has stayed with me my whole life. No teacher I ever had after her came close to matching her beauty. Rest in peace, Mrs. Canafax.

Mrs. Canafax was my music teacher at TVS. I will always remember the ball-rolling game we played in her class during grade school: if she rolled the ball to us, then we had to sing to her as we rolled it back. It was always so much fun! She was an amazing teacher and will be greatly missed.

We extend our sympathy to Catherine and all the family for their loss. In 1949 she played a violin solo at my wedding. She was a wonderful Principal violist in the FWSO. Goodbye, dear stand partner.

I first knew Louise in the Rainbow Girls--Then also at Central Methodist (now Arborlawn), our mothers were good friends, and then later when I entered Texas Wesleyan. She was one of my installing officers in Rainbow. My love and prayers are with all of you in her family. I treasure the joy of knowing Louise. Elizabeth Forsyth Harris, Keller, TX

My mother taught Louise to play the violin. Then later they both played viola in the symphony and many other places. Mother was just so proud of her former student. Louise was a very wonderful and accomplished lady. She has done so much for so many. She will be missed.

I knew Louise through First United Methodist Church and The Woman's Club. Never a finer and lovelier lady ever lived. She was always hard working, especially behind the music scenes, where I got to read about her, and see her pictures in the Star-Telegram. At the Woman's Club, she was in a couple of the groups I was in, and always friendly and a hard worker. In Psalms, especially Psalm 100, it starts off, "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands." Must have meant Louise, too, since she was involved in music. Guess heaven just got richer, and the Earth, poorer, for losing such a nice and talented lady. She will be terribly missed!

We will miss Louise and her bright smile and loving nature so very much. Watching her since last November has been most difficult for those of us who have known her so long...her difficult days are ended, and now she will play in God's Orchestra (and maybe teach them a thing or two...)The lovely memories we all have of Louise will live on as we remember her and all the marvelous things she has done for music and for Fort Worth. The picture shows Louise officiating at a Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship Brunch. Rest in Peace, dear one.
