Luther Wilson Obituary

Luther Howard Wilson, 80, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in Granbury.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Burial: 4 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Wilson, Danny Wilson, Gary Wilson, Derek Ball, Chad Leavitt and Brian Loughmiller.

Mr. Wilson was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Lake Dallas. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Crozier Tech High School in 1942. He married Clara Lurline Everett on June 1, 1943, in Dallas. He served in the Army's 6th Ranger Battalion as a staff sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II.

Mr. Wilson received the Theodore N. Vail Medal of Honor in 1976 for the rescue of a child from an apartment fire. He worked for Southwestern Bell for 38 1/2 years and also farmed 100 acres in Burleson. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and had been a member of Crowley First United Methodist Church since 1965.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Glenn Wilson, in 1984.

Survivors: Wife, Clara L. Wilson of Granbury; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Deborah Wilson of Dallas, Danny and Debbie Wilson of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Gary and Debbie Wilson of Arlington; daughters and son-in-law, Jill Wilson of Oceanside, Calif., and Mary and Darrell Ball of Granbury; and grandchildren, Keeley, Anastasia, Peri Catherine, Christine, Wimberley, Stephanie, Courtney, Chad, Jenny, Katy, Derek, Andrew and Christopher.
