Fort Worth, Texas - Maria Guiomar Jara, best known as JoMar, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, at the age of 96.
Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Church with rosary one hour prior to service. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olivet.
JoMar was born in Dilley, Texas on Nov. 18, 1925. She was happily married to Robert Jara for 42 years up until his death in 1993. JoMar spent most of her life in Fort Worth where she graduated from North Side High School and started her career as a translator for Southwestern Petroleum. She was also an active member of All Saints Catholic Church. In addition to devoting a great deal of her time supporting neighborhood schools, scouts, and little leagues, she also worked 17 years as a bilingual aide and special education teacher's assistant in the Fort Worth ISD. Her efforts garnered her an Honorary Life Membership in the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers. Along with her husband, she was active in the local Democratic Party, serving on its executive committee and as a precinct judge for many years. In 1991, she was honored by the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas Fort Worth Chapter as one of the outstanding Hispanic Women of Tarrant County. JoMar was a devoted grandmother to generations of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In retirement, she served as a dedicated volunteer at NICA and traveled to places she had always wanted to go, from San Francisco to the Vatican in Rome.
JoMar is survived by her brother, Raul; sister, Minnie; son, Robert and wife, Kerrie; daughter, Delia and husband, Dave; as well as her sons, Louie and Rudy. She was also "Grandma" to four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and beloved "Aunt JoMar" to her many nieces and nephews.
