Mark Menikos Obituary

Mark Stephan Menikos

February 11, 2024

Fort Worth, Texas - Mark Menikos passed away February 11 at the age of 67. He is survived by his wife Betsy, his sons Ian and Micah, and his siblings Tim, Tom, Damon, and Melanie. Mark started playing violin at age 9. He is best known for playing Celtic Music and Gypsy Jazz. He and his brothers Tim and Tom began the band Brothers 3 that grew to include 5 other members, including Betsy. Although a reserved person, he came alive when performing, touching the hearts of many. He had an encyclopedic memory of tunes and songs. Mark was especially admired for his musical improvisations. Mark took up Taekwondo with his sons and earned a black belt. He was an instructor in the art for years. Friends describe him as being kind, sweet, thoughtful, and compassionate. He taught himself several computer languages and was always willing to help others with computer problems at home and at work. Mark worked for many years for the USPS, first as a letter carrier and later as a data analyst. Mark's church friends remember him with loving fondness. As one friend remarked regarding Mark's passing, "A beautiful point of light has departed this world." A service celebrating Mark's life will be held at St. Christopher Episcopal Church, 5709 Wedgwood Dr, Fort Worth on February 24, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to James L West Center for Dementia or to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Mark.

Always on the lookout for some news on Mark's musical doings, I was gutted to read of his passing. It has been decades since I moved away from Texas, but I recall vividly the many times I was blessed and thrilled to hear him pull such amazing sounds from his violin playing with the Rakish Paddy bunch that brought such tunes as Bedlam Boys to the The Hop. No words to say what a genius and purely genuine soul he was. What a privilege to have met and talked and listened to him. I can only imagine the wonderful memories his family has to look back on. Our loss, heaven's gain.

I never met Mark in person but I had the good fortune of producing a release of his amazing music with the group Aurora. I was saddened to hear of his passing, but I feel a sense of knowing, without a doubt he is at peace in a wonderful place and probably making music we couldn't even imagine. RIP Mark.

Surely, Mark's enthusiastic performances of Django's music at A5A will forever keep the music and our memory of Mark alive and well.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I met Mark as we both worked for USPS in the AMS department. Mark was as it has been written so kind and willing to help all. My wife and I enjoyed going to as many Brothers3 concerts as possible. We have at least three CD´s and enjoy them to this day. Thank you Mark for sharing your talents and putting smiles on our hearts. God´s peace to you all.
