Martin Owens Obituary

Martin "Marty" Owens, 59, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in DFW National Cemetery. Memorials: The family requests donations in Marty's name to any local ASPCA. Marty was born June 4, 1954, the son of Gerald Owens and Lee Martin. He was a graduate of the American International School of Kabul in 1972. He joined the U.S. Navy and served until receiving an honorable discharge in 1975. After his military service, he attended the University of Texas at Arlington, receiving a B.A. degree in 1982. Marty's love of culture and adventure took him to all points of the globe. He was an avid gun collector and military history enthusiast. He was a previous employee of J.C. Penney, and was most recently employed by Cowtown Charters. Survivors: Parents, Gerald Owens, Lee Bonnewell; siblings, Mike Owens, Marsha Backes and her husband, Karl, Melva Edwards and her husband, Billy, Tracy Bonnewell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

I worked with Martin at Cowtown up until Nov. He was a very nice man, always positive and smiling. He had a great sense of humor. My prayers are with the family.
