Arlington, Texas - Matthew Ray Martin, loving husband and father and beloved Pap Pap, died peacefully on June 3, 2022 at age 64 at his home in Arlington.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Brief informal memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Cremation followed by interment at Greenwood Mausoleum.

Matthew Ray Martin was born on December 12, 1957 in Dallas, Texas to Riley Carroll Martin and Mary Rae Weaver Martin. After graduation from South Grand Prairie High School in 1975, he began a successful career in the roofing industry, with the last 33 years at R.S. Frazier Roofing Company in Arlington. Matt married the love of his life Connie Lee Banks on June 30, 1987. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He loved baseball and softball and was the ultimate sports Dad, always cheering his kids on. His daughter Crystal earned a softball scholarship to Texas A&M and was an All Big 12 Conference short stop selection. After pitching for the Arlington High School Colts, his son Christopher went on to become a relief pitcher in the minor league for the Boston Red Sox and then the big league for the Colorado Rockies, the New York Yankees, the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters (in Japan), the Texas Rangers, and the Atlanta Braves, and is now with the Chicago Cubs. Matt lived to see Chris win the World Series with the Braves in 2021, one of the great moments of his life.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Steven Woods, and stepbrother Monte Newton.
Survivors: Wife, Connie Banks Martin. Children, Crystal Martin Cibele and husband Rob, Christopher Riley Martin and wife Danielle, Shannon McTaggart and partner Eric Lopez, and Jonathan McTaggart. Grandchildren, Cadence Cibele, Kolbi Martin, Beckett Martin, Aiden Lopez, Ethyn Lopez, Haylee McTaggart, and another baby Martin on the way. Siblings, Mike Martin and wife Phyllis, and Cindy Woods. Stepmother, Marita Martin. Stepsiblings, D'onna Winn and husband Michael and Grady Newton and wife Dena. In-laws, Nicole Banks Parker and husband Jordan and Randy Carr and wife Lynn.
