Reginald Anderson Obituary

Reggie Anderson, 54, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.
Memorials: Donations may be made in Reggie's memory to Covenant Christian Academy Building Fund, 901 Cheek Sparger Road, Colleyville, Texas 76034; or VITAS Hospice at Baylor All Saints Hospital.
Reggie Anderson's great talent in life was making and keeping friends. He was a great athlete, an avid golfer and a loving father as well. Anyone from elementary school friends to work colleagues who ever called him "friend" did so with uncommon respect and affection.
Reggie was born in Fort Worth and grew up on the east side where he excelled at sports from Eastern Hills Elementary school and Junior High to Eastern Hills High School. As quarterback, he led his high school team to so many impressive victories that he earned a football scholarship to Rice University where he also lettered twice in baseball. While at Rice, he had a very special blind date with the young woman who would become his wife of 33 years. Terri Enis and Reg Anderson met in 1973 and married in 1975. They had three beautiful daughters, Angela, Allyson and Ashley.
Knowing what a great athlete and "man's man" he was, most people would have expected him to want a bunch of rambunctious boys. However, Reg was absolutely crazy about his girls. He taught them all to play golf, coached all their sports teams, and was always 100 percent involved in their lives from diapers to graduation. For Reg, it wasn't about boys or girls, it was about teaching his kids to be the best they could be while having fun and laughing as much as possible. Kids, friends and family alike will remember what a prankster he was and that he always had a joke or a funny story to tell.
Besides friends and family, Reggie's other passion was sports. He was a dedicated golfer who was lucky enough to play some of the most famous courses in the world, including St. Andrews in Scotland (which he eagled the 18th hole). He also fulfilled a lifelong dream last year when he played in the Colonial Pro Am with daughter Allyson as his caddie. Reggie was a football official for 30 years, working one year in the Canadian Football League and recently retired after 15 years from the Lone Star Conference.
Reggie will be remembered as a man who loved God, family, friends, golf, sports and most of all, life. His last two years were spent courageously fighting cancer, but he never complained, never felt sorry for himself, and never let illness get in the way of doing what he loved. Reggie was preceded in death by father, Leroy Anderson, in 1999; and father-in-law, Bill Enis, in 1973.
Survivors: Wife of 33 years, Terri Anderson; daughters, Angela Ashford and husband, Jason, and their son, Robert Tucker Ashford, Allyson Anderson and fiance, Todd Crookshank, Ashley Anderson; mother, Dorothy Anderson; sister, Melanie Brunk and husband, Gregg; in-laws, Iris and Del Johnson, Hunter and Shirley Enis; sister-in-law, Judy O'Loughlin and husband, Ted; brothers-in-law, Bart Enis and wife, Julie, Larry Enis and wife, Elaine; and niece and nephews, Erica Brunk Ladwig, Quinn Brunk, Blake, Taylor and William Enis.

Terri,
I am late to add my condolences, but add them nonetheless. I only found out this summer at my EHHS class reunion that you were married to Reggie (having lost touch with you from the old days of go-go dancing on top of the dressers and calling each other during scary movies). Everyone said what a beautiful couple the two of you were, and I believe it. All my best wishes,

To the Anderson Family,
I played football at Rice with Reggie and was stunned to hear of his passing. A friend of mine from high school had seen the obituary in the paper and emailed me. Take to heart, as some of the other entries have stated, he was indeed a great guy and liked by everyone he was around. Sorry to see him go. Wish we could have played some golf together.

Terri and girls, there's not much I could add to all the wonderful stories of Reggie except we're all better for knowing him. We were always so competitive in everything. So I'm sure that when we get to Heaven he'll be waiting saying, "See, I beat you here, what took you so long?"

Our prayers are with you,

I will always remember Reggie with a smile on his face. He made so many of my volleyball games this year and that meant so much to me. It was so wonderful to have his support and friendship during my first year of coaching at Weatherford High School.

I am truly sorry for your loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time in your lives.

To Reggie's family and friends,

I am very saddened to learn that Reggie has died. I was one year behind Reggie at Easterh Hills High School. I have great memories of playing on a city championship team together Reggie's senior year. He was very kind to me. I remember him as a great leader and mature beyond his 18 years. I am not surprised that Reggie has a great family and many friends. God bless Reggie's family and all who love him and miss him.

Terri & Family:
The loss of someone like Reggie creates such a void that it is almost unconsolable. We can use our God given memory bank to recall all the pleasant events and that will help him live on for the rest of our lives. All of us that attended the wonderful tribute started using our memories at that time.
I remember how busy everyone in your family was because of jobs, children and social activities. Your family will have so may fun times to remember now and in the future about your years togethor.

Terri and family,
I was so moved at the funeral this afternoon. It was beautiful. To hear all 3 girls get up and tell what their father meant to them was something that I will never forget. Everytime I saw Reggie, he had a smile on his face. He lived his live for you and the girls and I am very proud to have known him. He was and will be an inspiration to all of us that knew him and we will never forget how he touched each of our lives. He was looking down on us all today with that smile. Thank you for sharing him with us on Friday nights throughout the years. My prayers are with you and your family.

Terri and family:
Reggie is the definition of a gentleman. I knew him in high school, but didn't know him well. A year or so out of high school, I signed up for summer weight lifting at EHHS. We were the only two from our class. This "jock" walked up to me the first day, recognized me, and said hello. I enjoyed talking with him for those weeks and will never forget his smile, humor and kindness.

Terri,
I guess I was hanging around with your big brother 1973 when you went out with "that college guy" on the now famous Blind Date. Being high school jocks, we were so impressed with the fact that you were able to get a date with the quaterback at Rice. That was until Rice signed Tommy Kramer and then Reggie spent most of the rest of his college career watching Kramer play, just like the rest of us. That was the begining. That was until Bill's passing. At that time Reggie started moving more into the hero category from the Terri's boyfriend category . I don't need to tell how much your family has meant to me, but I want you to know that Reggie was every bit apart of that too. He has done nothing but bring back together a brokenhearted family and been the man Bill always new he would be. I am sure your dad welcomed him home and thanked him for everything he has done for the Enis family since he had gone on to be with the Lord. April and send our deepest sympathy with Reggie's passing , but find comfort knowing that there is no more pain and he loves you guys more than ever. You and the girls are in our thoughts and our prayers. We will be in touch and look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Terri,
I did not have the privelege to know Reggie, however, the times we worked together at Higginbotham you always had a smile to give. This shows me that you have love and fulfillment in your life from Reggie and your daughters. I know that you will miss him terribly, hold the thought of one day you will see him again in Heaven. He will be looking down and watching over you, the girls and the new grandson.
God Bless,

Terri, and Family,

It's hard to say goodbye to someone that we love, but it makes it a little easier when we know that person is going to Heaven, and will be waiting for us when it's our turn to go! We love you all, and will sure miss Reggie. He was a great man, and a great role model. We were priviledged to have met him and call him our friend.

To Dorothy - my dear friend of long ago, I am so saddened to hear about Reggie - I still remember him as that handsome gentle kid who was so upright and strong. Apparently he has had a wonderful life and leave a wonderful family. I still remember you all so vividly and love you. I pray for very real comfort and understanding. We have lost a giant.

Dorothy and family,
You are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. I knew Reggie from Church and EHHS, but our friendship really came from our years at Sagamore Hill. We were in a devotional skit written by Maraget Davis and preformed it every Sunday for months. We would laugh together in the hallway before the skit and many times cry together in the hallway afterwards - knowing that what we had just said impacted our lives as well as the ones we had performed for. And Dorothy it was a joy to get to know you in our years together in the SHBC nursery. May God surround you with His love and grace and comfort you in the days ahead.

"Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great state that has no end;
Yet days go by and weeks rush on,
and before I know it a year is gone;
And I never see my old friends face,
for life is a swift & terrible race.
He knows I like him just as well
as in the days when I rang his bell
and he rang mine. We were younger then; and now we are busy tired men
--tired with playing a foolish game,
Tired with trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow", I say "I will call my friend
Just to show that I'm thinking of him"
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes, and the distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner--yet miles away
Then a news item!"Your friend died today" And thats what we get--and
deserve in the end--Around the corner, a vanishing friend"
Reggie and I met and maintained a friendship as fellow football officials in San Antonio and news of his death was shocking and distressful....my thoughts and prayers are with his family......he was truely one of the good guys.

To the Anderson family,
I have known Reggie since 1st grade at Eastern Hills Elementary. I regret not having kept in closer contact since we graduated from EHHS. Reggie was always, without a doubt, a class act. It was a privelege to know him and I know he will be missed. Seems like every time we talked since graduation the conversation always turned to our Little League days and loading the team into the back of Mr. Anderson's blue pickup for a trip to the corner store for a cold drink after a game. Good memories. May God bless and comfort you during this time. Thanks Reggie, for being a friend.

Terri and Family,
Though Reggie and I were not close friends at Eastern Hills H.S., we were friendly classmates and joked around quite a bit. I only met him once since graduating in '72 and that was at the 35th class reunion. I always had a very good opinion of him then, and have come to hold an even higher one of him now. I truly regret not haven kept in touch with him, but as many will attest, it was an honor to know him. My prayers are with you.

I always loved and admired Reggie when I was his youth minister at Sagamore. Love to all the sweet family on this resurrection week. The Lord is adequate to comfort you and He is adequate for Reg today. He is the God who never slumbers nor sleeps. He is awake and aware of your every need.

To the Anderson family,
I knew Reggie all through my school years. He was a dear friend and I called him Jughead and he called me Rat. I was very torn in my heart to hear that he had passed away. My prayers and sympathy are for all of the family, but I know he is healthy and sitting by God and smiling down on everyone with that great smile and watching over his dear family.

I graduated high school with Reggie. Even though I did not know him well, he always seemed to have a positive outlook and a friendly smile. I met with him again at our high school reunion. We talked about our similar interest in golf and God. He was truly an outstanding person who I know will be missed by all. Our prayers are with his family and friends.

I knew Reggie through our affiliation with the Lone Star Conference. He was always in a good mood and I knew he had a passion for the game of football. I know he will be missed among family and friends. He will also be missed from his football friends, he was a great official, but from reading the obituary he was a greater family man and friend to those he was close to.

Terri and family,
You can be proud that Reggie was a great husband, a great father, and a very special person. We who had the opportunity to know him are better off for that privilege, and he will be profoundly missed. I am guessing he is standing at Heaven's gate, football and whistle in hand, ready to start another game. May God's peace be with you, and may perpetual light shine on Reg.
