It is with great sadness when one must write of another ones passing.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Robert Nichols.
I will always remember him, especially his devotion and dedication to his scientific pursuits , his respect of others, his pride in his uniform, his sense of duty, his pledge to honor, and his love of his country. He will be missed by all who knew him, until we all meet again.

3 months and 6 days have passed since you were lost in time. Though we still mourn our loss, we look forward to the bright future ahead. Just as you would have wanted for your children, family, and friends. Gone, but never forgotten.

I would like everyone who knew my brother, whether briefly or very personally, to take a moment and say a special prayer for his spirit as today is his 32nd birthday. Robert, I still miss and love you very much.

May your days be filled with happiness and your nights be filled with peace
May your truth unfold for all to see and all of your pain cease
May your spirit be filled with light and love
May your spirit find rest between, below, and above
Days are numbered for us all, but are to be lived to the fullest
With your memories in our heart, may we always remember the best

My deepest sympathies to the Nichols family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Robert and I became friends pretty much the second I started working at the Health Science Center. Robert was a wonderful person, he was always friendly and knew how to make me laugh, even when I didn't want to. The realization that I won't get to see Robert walking down the hall or poking into my room to say hello is very difficult and really hard for me to accept. While I will miss Robert terribly, I am thankful of two things: I am thankful I got the opportunity to know someone as great as Robert, and I am the most thankful for the fact I got to see him the week before he passed so I can always remember him laughing and I got to hug him and tell him goodbye one last time.
Robert--one day when I get to heaven (hopefully) and I see you there, I will finally get to take you out to lunch like I promised you the last time that I saw you. I will miss you so much, thank you for always being such a great friend to me, a great person to everyone around you, and a hero for our country.

I am the graduate advisor for the Ph.D. program in Cellular and Structural Biology. Upon hearing of Robert’s death, I was stunned! Having just seen him in the past three weeks, I could not and am still not able to believe/accept that he is gone. Since he began his studies in our graduate program, Robert and I would talk regularly about a variety of issues. Often, he would stop by my office when he was on his way to or from class or another commitment to simply chat; I always looked forward to those interactions and his absence has left a avoid in my daily routine that will never ever be filled. For me, his death is both a personal loss as well as a loss to the Department and to the scientific community. Robert was a bright young man with a very, very promising future as a research scientist. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and acquaintances, and may he rest forever in the arms of the Lord.

Please accept our deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Nichols family. This includes everyone: wife, children, parents, sisters, brother, and all other family members.
Robert was our son-in-law. We remember and have pictures of him holding James and Lidia in love after their birth. We enjoyed his visits to us and our phone conversations.
May his children (our grandchildren) grow up remembering his love.
