David was raised with Robert (Rod)
on south side of Ft. Worth and use to eat fried chicken Mrs. Marshall cooked for him. He loved that. we have seen him here several times in Ft. Worth at different occasions.
He always knew us. He will be missed. Blessings Rod.

Mr. Roddy was a very gracious man.
On one of his visits home to Fort Worth quite a few years ago, he visited his alma mater, Tech. High School and did a motivational assembly for the student body of Trimble Tech.
The kids were absolutely overjoyed when he gave his signature line..."Come on Down!" They gave him a rousing ovation and listened raptly during his speech. Thank you Mr. Roddy for coming back and inspiring our kids.
God Speed.

I also had the privilege of meeting Rod at his mom's estate sale in Mansfield 10 years ago. He was very kind, spoke to everyone and we all got a kick out of him autographing items bought at the sale. I even remember him signing a straw hat! You fought the fight, Rod. May you rest in peace. The Price is Right won't be the same without your resonant voice saying "come on down" to a lucky contestant. TV has lost another one of the "nice guys."

"In the interest of better understanding...." North Texas is a better place for the work of Rod Roddy with "Hotline," on two McLendon radio stations, KLIF and KNUS. This was one of several radio talk shows that served as a basis for the fictional movie "Talk Radio" by Oliver Stone. I'll do my best to maintain the tapes I have of this program. One of them was about the Dallas County Democratic Convention of 1972, and his endorsement of George McGovern. There were others about protests against the "United Way," and the "Rally Against Pledge Card Enforcements," where Rod appeared at a meeting of the Dallas City Council. There was also a "lemon" car parade down Lemmon Avenue, with Wanda Stansbury, and - - of course - - the event where he threw the former "Miss America" off the air after she threw hot coffee on him. His program attracted calls from "Dixie Leber," an organizer for the Ku Klux Klan, who called in regularly to argue. (She died in 1980.) Rod's courageous stands on these issues has withstood the test of time. I am thankful for the memories of the way radio 'used to be' in Dallas. We will not forget Rod Roddy.

Early in my career, my first job in fact, I was at KNUS working 6-midnight when Rod did his talk show on KLIF. One night he so angered a Miss America, she threw coffee on him and stalked out of the studio. From that night forward, Rod became my radio idol. That night was talked about in Dallas radio for years to come. I'm proud to have known him and been a fan of his.

I had the privilage of meeting Rod Roddy in Dallas over 10 years ago and he gave me one of his infamous picture cards, the same picture shown in this article. He was such a fun, friendly, outgoing person that could put a smile on anyones face. I've kept that card on my desk and have watched him on "The Price is Right" for all of these years. America has lost a great Texan, but Heaven has gained a special angel...

You fought a valiant fight. I was so sure that you would win. 'Come on down,' has been changed to 'Come on up!' God bless you.
