Roy E. "Gene" Cherry, 67, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013. Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Strouds Creek Cemetery in Tolar. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wiley Funeral Home. Gene was born and raised in Tolar. He graduated from Tolar High School in 1965. Gene served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. He married Kathie Jean Yeary in 1969 and they had three children in their 43 years of marriage. Gene worked for Hood County Road and Bridge, retiring in February 2000. He loved to fish and loved all his tractors, some restored by his hands with his wife's help, his son's help and grandson's help. Gene loved to tell stories, true stories or stories that he added his own bit of non-truth to. He was preceded in death by his parents, Slim and Lorie Cherry; sister, Ima Jo Hard; brother, J.Q. Cherry; and several nephews. Survivors: Wife, Kathie Cherry of Tolar; daughter, Kim Faulkner and husband, Travis, of Brock; sons, Justin Cherry and wife, Judy, of Tolar, Keith Cherry and wife, Nichole, of Tolar; grandsons, Troy Faulkner, Trent Faulkner, Trace Faulkner, Cody Cherry, Jake Cherry, Carson Cherry and Cole Cherry; sisters, Emma Lou Tullos, Clara and Harold Billings, Tressie and Bob Davis, Susie and Malcolm Campbell, Shirley and Larry Reneau, Dee and Gayle Hague, Marie and Doug Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.
