Fort Worth, Texas - Royce Allen Vick died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, after a brief illness.
His life will be celebrated in the sanctuary of University Christian Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2021.
Gifts in his memory may be given to the University Christian Church Endowment Fund (2720 S. University Dr., Fort Worth, TX 76109) or to The Humane Society of North Texas (1841 E. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76103).
Royce was born in Weatherford, Texas, graduated from Weatherford High School in 1953, attended Weatherford College, and graduated from TCU in 1958. He enjoyed a long professional career in banking, ultimately retiring from OmniAmerican Federal Credit Union in 2000. Royce began his military service in the Army National Guard. He was deployed to Korea and later served in Viet Nam. He was a member of the 5th Battalion 7th Cavalry and devoted years of service to the 5/7 Cavalry Association. He maintained many close relationships with fellow association brothers. Royce was an Elder at University Christian Church and served as a Stephen Minister. In his retirement, he volunteered for UCC calling on members in the hospital for many years, and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for over 10 years. He was a devoted fan of TCU athletics, especially basketball and baseball. One of his most treasured memories was attending the Rose Bowl Game in 2011 when TCU defeated Wisconsin. Royce was single for 13 years before his marriage to Judy in 1978, which he used to say were the best 13 years of his life. Eventually, he had to backtrack on that statement.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Vick; step-daughter, Bonnie Peacock; and brother-in-law, James Williams, II.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Vick; Judy's daughter, Jennifer Peacock Gutierrez and husband, William (Memo) Gutierrez Jr.; Jennifer's children, his grandchildren, Christian Gaynor, Kyle Gaynor and Logan Gaynor; sister, Billie Williams, her children, his niece and nephews, James Williams, III, Janna Thomas and John Williams; and his younger brother, Michael Vick.
He will be missed by us all.
