Ruby Hickey Obituary

Ruby Hickey
November 11, 1937 - May 4, 2021
Hurst, Texas - Ruby Dendy Hickey, 83, danced through the gates of heaven on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, wearing her bright and beautiful smile. She was born on November 11, 1937, to Sid and Gladys Dendy in Bowie County. She graduated from Lamesa High in 1955, and then studied at Brantley Draughon Business College.
Ruby was married to the love of her life, Fred Hickey, for 59 years. They enjoyed traveling the country with family and friends, and then established roots in Hurst, Texas, where they raised their two daughters.
Ruby was a dedicated homemaker that took great pride in caring for her husband, daughters, and the many cats and dogs that she also considered her children. She loved spending time with her family, and regularly hosted holiday celebrations, always making sure there was enough food to feed an army. In her later years, she never hesitated to make time to love and spoil her grandsons, who she adored. There were always patty melts and ice cream sandwiches at grandma's house - where Monster drinks were allowed, and "grandma's spankings felt like kisses!"
Incredibly wise and strong in her faith, Ruby was never one to waiver on what was right and true. Her deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ was evident, as she loved her Lord and Friend. She was a member of Church of the City, Euless, where she loved to worship in a place that she said "is so alive!"
Ruby is survived by daughters: Laura Anthony Orr and Susan Amanda Embry, brother: Bill Dendy, sister-in-law: Dot McDonald, grandsons: Cole Anthony and Cort Anthony, and many nephews and nieces, including Debbie Severson, with whom she shared a deep connection and loved as her own.
When Ruby spoke about heaven, there was no mention of mansions or streets of gold. She only looked forward to standing before her Lord Jesus and spending eternity with her husband and those she loved, including every single pet that ever crossed her path.
A celebration of Ruby's life will be held on Saturday, May 8th, at 10:00 am at Church of the City, located at 1606 W. Euless Blvd, in Euless, Texas.
