Sunja Ross Devnew Obituary
Sunja "Sunni" Ross Devnew
April 2, 1942 - February 7, 2024
Benbrook, Texas - Heaven gained another angel on February 7 when Sunni passed away peacefully at her home. She had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room; our lives will never be the same without her.
Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite A. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Olive Place Baptist.
Sunni was born April 2, 1942, D-Day, in Dallas to Leona Louise (Southern) and Wilhelm "Fred" Glashoff. Their only child, Sunni attended Zion Lutheran School then graduated from Riley High School in 1959. After high school Sunni continued her education at Texas Women's University where she majored in Science. After university, Sunni began her career at GSA and worked there until her retirement in 1994. During her working career Sunni continued her education and earned a degree from North Texas State University.
Sunni married Jack Ross in 1972 and moved to the house on Plantation Drive where she lived until the day she died. Sunni and Jack had a "yours, mine, and ours" family that included Jack's daughters, Kim and Marna, Sunni's son, David, and their only child together, Kyle. After Jack's death in 2005, Sunni married John Devnew in 2010 and they spent the remainder of her days together.
Always the life of the party, Sunni loved to plan fun events for her friends and family. She was notorious for coming up with exciting games to keep her guests entertained. Sunni was also an artist. She enjoyed painting and was an excellent photographer, a talent she inherited from her father.
Sunni's passions included spending time with her family, being a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, and her faith. As an Elk, Sunni especially enjoyed charity work and volunteering at events to help her community. Raised in the Lutheran Church, Sunni remained a devout Christian all her life. In her later years she attended Olive Place Baptist Church along with her husband John where she enjoyed fellowship and studying the word of God.
The loss of Sunni in our lives has left a hole that cannot be filled. We will miss her immensely but are comforted in knowing that she lived her life to the fullest and is now at peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sunni is preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Fred; her husband, Jack Ross; and her grandson, Walter Winton.
She is survived by her step-daughters, Kim Ross Smith and her husband, Cone and their children, Gregory, Christopher, Dorothy, Shea, and Trey; Marna Ross Yerigan and her husband, David, and their children, Todd and Randy; sons, David Bradley and his wife, Chris, and their son, Michael, and Kyle Ross, and his wife, Amy, and their daughters, Ruby and Lily; and her loving and devoted husband, John Devnew, and his children, Toni Freer and her husband, Bob; and Dolores Clark and her husband, Mark.
