Troy Kegans Obituary

Troy Gerald Kegans, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in Arlington. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center St., Arlington, with Dr. David Mosser officiating. Troy was born July 2, 1928, in Trent to John Herbert Kegans and Laura Bright Kegans. He graduated from Trent High School, Home of the GORILLAS, in 1946. Troy attended McMurry University in Abilene, majoring in business administration and playing football and baseball. He received a letter from Branch Rickey to tryout for the Fort Worth Cats that were a part of the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. He chose to finish college and marry Jean Walker of Loraine, graduating in 1950. Troy started his career in the tire business working for Firestone Tire, in 1966 he joined General Tire. He went through several promotions (store manager, district manager, regional manager), and retired in 1987 as vice president of sales in the corporate office in Akron, Ohio. Troy's career was filled with rewarding experiences, including international travel, great friends and lasting memories from their Akron home. In 1987, he retired at the age of 59. Troy and Jean moved to Arlington to be closer to family and friends. He loved to play golf and play gin with his buddies. Troy was a member of Walnut Creek Country Club for several years and also loved playing golf with his buddies in the Arlington Senior Men's Golf Association. He joined First United Methodist Church in Arlington in 1987. Troy loved his church and Sunday school class "Wesley Progressers." He was an avid and loyal Texas Rangers Baseball Club fan. Troy's extended family loved him as the true patriarch of the family. He was the most gentle, kindest man anyone could imagine. However, there was never a question who was in charge. Since 1955, annual Kegans' reunions were held that consisted of the three families, his sister, Wanda's and his little brother, Eugene's families. There will always be a giant hole now that he is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Survivors: Wife, Jean Walker Kegans; sons, Russ Kegans and wife, Brenda, of Arlington and Chad Kegans and wife, Kate, of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren, Lindsay Kegans Duncan and her husband, Jamie, Brent Kegans and wife, Emily, Cole Kegans and Holly Kegans; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Leighton Duncan, and Finley Kegans; siblings, Wanda Duncan of Amarillo and Eugene Kegans of Leonard; and numerous other family members and friends.

Troy and Jean were special friends in Akron who we stayed in touch with over the years with Christmas cards. Both were a blessing from God. God Bless. William & Nancy Smith

Jean,

Tom and I were saddened to just hear about the passing of our friend in Christ, Troy. We sat right behind you in church, and I always looked forward to seeing and hugging you both on the pew in front of us.

Blessings and love,

Having returned from an extended trip, I was talking with my brother who told us about seeing the obit for Troy. Our families have past ties and we deeply appreciated Hub, Laura, Troy, Wanda and Eugene. I am the only daughter of Tom and Ruth, neighbors to Kegans at the Grimes Gasoline Plant, Trent TX. The last time I visited with Troy was at Homecoming and it was a big challenge not to call him 'Hub' Blessings to you and yours as the adjustment to your loss will be filled with precious memories of a life well-lived. Most sincerely, Ruth Ann (Christ) Driggers

Jean, we are holding you are in our prayers for the recent passing of your husband, Troy. We may have met most likely when I was a child living in Midland. My grandparents are Aubrey and Eunice Caswell. I treasured visiting my grandparents in Loraine along with the wonderful extended family there. My parents are Homer & Dorothy Nance. So, we share a family history and knowing that, prayers for you at this difficult time. May God richly bless you as He comforts you, Jean.
