Virginia Ellen Rose Porter

Virginia Ellen Rose Porter, 86, a longtime Grand Prairie resident, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, after a brief illness. Service: 3 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. She was born in Cooper on Nov. 15, 1926, one of seven children born to the late William Woody and Minnie Viola Rose. She moved with her family to the Dallas area where she had successful careers in cosmetology, nursing and as an entrepreneur and owner of the Decor Center in Grand Prairie for over 15 years. Virginia was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Virginia loved being with family and friends. She will forever be remembered and missed by countless people who were blessed to know her. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Samuel Dewane Porter, and daughter, Dorothy Jean Hanks; great-granddaughter, Lacy Jean Spurlock; and sisters, Elsie Aubrey, Letris Cherry, Robbie Gilbert, Loretta Allen and Nellie Kyle. Survivors: Sister, Roberta Lamb of Grand Prairie; daughters, Brenda Lawson of Alvarado, Diane Sturgeon of Abilene and Judy Gentry of Grand Prairie; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
