Warren Schellhase Obituary

Warren W. Schellhase of Saginaw, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander, passed away at home with his family Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Greenwood Chapel. A reception will follow. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or other organizations dedicated to helping our military personnel. Warren was born July 25, 1934, on the family homestead in Precinct 1, Kerr County, to Albert and Katie Striegler Schellhase, and was the fifth of their five sons. He was preceded in death by his parents and two elder brothers, James and Marion. Warren served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1977, first as an enlisted man, then, upon graduation from the University of Texas, as a commissioned officer beginning in 1958. He was selected by the Navy for graduate studies in Middle Eastern history and international law at American University in Washington, D.C., where he earned his master's of science. He proudly served his country for 26 years in the Middle East, Vietnam, Cuba and other places around the globe, and retired from the service in 1977. Special thanks to the Hospice Plus community for all of their love and support. Survivors: His loving wife, Janet Turley Schellhase; sons, Franklin and his wife, Cindy, and Christopher and his wife, Lily; daughters, Vivian and her husband, Aleck, and Boo; grandchildren, Frederick, Faye, Rose and Karl Schellhase, and Kristen and Alex Moore, all of whom he loved deeply and was justly proud; and his brothers, O.E. "Buddy" of Pearland and Ernst of Benbrook.

My prayers are with you. It is never easy to say goodbye to the people we love. Warren was not only a loving husband, son, and father; but he was also a man who answered a call of duty and served his country. I am proud to call him my cousin. I was amazed when I read his obituary;what a humble man. He never once bragged about his many accomplishments. He is now on his final journey. I know he is wife my beloved wife, "Rosalie Patrick," and now they are watching over us. There is a German saying: "We are on this earth for a short time, but in the end we are all, "Longing to be Home." Warren is home now. God Bless you all and I am deeply sorry for your loss. I wish I could be there in person, but please know I am thinking of you. Warren will be greatly missed. Love Calvin Patrick

THINKING OF ALL OF YOU, WITH FOND MEMORIES,AND LOVE,

August 4, 2014

Our condolences to the family. I am with the Naval ROTC alumni from UT. We read the obituary and suspect that Warren received his commission through the NESEP program which was an enlisted commissioning program at UT hosted by the NROTC program. If you can confirm this we would like to recognize Warren as one of our departed comrades on our website, www.utnrotcalum.org. You could respond to the webmaster there. If true Warren could be our earliest known NESEP officer candidate. Thanks for your consideration.
