I joined Odell , as the second member of his department of medicine, Labor Day 1969. I treasure the time we served together and the high standards he pushed us all towards. He was the best of medicine in his era, and will be greatly missed

I am so very saddened to learn of "Doctor's" passing. He was a mentor to many, including myself. Although I'm not a doctor, I had the privilege of working for him during the 1970s, when he was the Director of the Department of Medicine at JPS. Doctor, by example, was the person who "enlightened" me, and made me open my eyes to the greater world of which my younger self was unaware. He was always that person who inspired me to look beyond the self-imposed boundaries, and encouraged me to move beyond my comfort zone to achieve much more than I might have otherwise. I'm not sure he was aware that he was doing this - but, indeed, he did. Thank you, Doctor. You were a great man, and I am a better person because of you. I hope you and Mary Dell are happily together again.

As a nursing student at John Peter Smith hospital in 1966 to 1968 and an employee after till 1988 I had the great pleasure to occasionally be in Dr Hargrove´s presence as he made rounds with medical interns and residents and we nursing students tagged along ready to absorbed his wisdom and knowledge as patient diagnosis and treatment plans were discussed. Each patient, doctor, staff and even we lowly student nurses were treated with the upmost respect, he was and is still very much respected. He questioned me once about one of my patients in the ICU and I answered correctly much to my astonishment . He offered a wry smile and said "Well done." I almost lost my composure ! One of the most knowledgeable, compassionate and kind physicians I´ve ever know. The good Lord has one of the best but I´m sure he always knew that.
