Bill graduated from North Side High School in 1939 and enjoyed playing varsity high school basketball. He attended Texas Christian University and the University of Georgia.
Bill enlisted in the Navy during World War II, spent two years in the South Pacific and returned to the States to enter naval flight training. He was honorably discharged in 1945 in Pensacola, Fla.
His career as a builder and lessor of the U.S. Postal Service began at Cooley Lumber Co. on Lancaster Avenue. It was here where he met Doris Ann Cooley and enjoyed 64 years of sharing their love of each other, the Lord and their family. He was one of the longest tenured lessors to the U.S. Postal Service in the United States.
Bill was a member of Richland Hills Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a man of God who trusted the Lord for all he needed and praised Him for all he was given. He is also remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
In addition to dedicating his efforts to ministries for Southside Church of Christ and Richland Hills Church of Christ, Bill actively participated in civic and community affairs. He enjoyed memberships with the Fort Worth Optimist Club, Chamber of Commerce, Ridglea Country Club, The Petroleum Club and the Association of United States Postal Lessors. He served on the boards of Fort Worth Christian School and the Community Enrichment Center. Bill loved to travel and fish in Colorado, and he played tennis until he was 80.

Doris, Mary and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Bill's death. We remember him as an exemplary Christian and gentleman. The only look we ever saw on his face ranged between a grin and a big smile! An easy man to remember; a difficult one to forget. Your largesse in gifting the lot in Trail West up here eventually blessed the Mountain View church in Buena Vista. Much love and hearfelt best wishes in weeks ahead. We love you with the love of the Lord indeed! jim & mary mckillip

Dera Doris,
I am sorry to hear of Bill's passing but glad that you have this avenue to notify people who would not have heard. I have such fond memories of Bill from being a frequent visitor to your home on Monticello Dr. and at the lake house next to my parents. Bill was such a gentle and kind man, and a wonderful father, husband, friend and Christian. I remember rides in your new T-Bird, playing on your private tennis court, fishing off your dock, rides in your motor boat, a lot of free and tasty lunches, Mom and Dad enjoing bridge at your home or ours, and your hosting parties at the lake house for the college Sunday school group from kids at T.C.U.
I will keep you in my prayers that you would be comforted by the Holy Spirit with that "peace that surpasses understanding", and that you would be surrounded by friends and family to help you to get through this difficult time. And, thanks for coming to Dad's funeral. It was good to see both of you and Kathy at that time and to catch up on old times.
Sincerely, Wayne Gage

Dear Doris & Cathy,
So sorry to here this, but if I know Bill he's already arranged a bridge game with my Mom & Dad in Heaven.
Bill was the nicest and kindest adult man I knew when I was growing up. He was a great role model of a wonderful Christain Father, Husband & Friend of my parents.
He also taught me simple, funny things like it's ok to take a bath with soap & all in Eagle Mountain Lake after a hot summer day.
You are in our prayers.

Dear Doris and Cathy,
So saddened to read about Bill in the Dallas paper. I have so many memories of you and Bill and your family at the lake. Playing bridge with Mom and Dad, fishing off your dock (we never caught much from ours), and just visiting and you and my parents being great friends. Many, many happy memories. 64 years is a long and wonderful time together and you know that you will be together again.

I miss you, Bobo. But I know the trout are abundant and the tennis courts are always lit where you are, so you must be happy. I love you and see you later.

It was my privilege to work with Bill many times as we prepared mailouts of the weekly sermon tapes. He was a joy to work with and I'll always remember our talks of travel, family and our Lord's church.
