William Pruitt Obituary

William F. "Fred" Pruitt, 57, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Bedford after a brief illness.

Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Fred was born Dec. 6, 1945, in Fort Worth. He was an Army veteran. Fred was a retired Fort Worth police officer for 30 years, where he served as a hostage negotiator for his last five years on the force, and had received the honor of Negotiator of the Year. For the past three and a half years, Fred was a police officer at Texas Christian University. He was a member of Blue Lodge Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of Polytechnic Grand Lodge 925, the Classic Cruisers, Shooters Pistol Club and Metal Detector Club.

Survivors: Wife, Melody Pruitt; stepson, Brad Grimland; sister, Lois Jean Jordan of Waco; nephews, Mike and Steve Jordan; extended family, mother and father-in-law, Jack and Billie Malone, Dub Bransom, Tommy Young, Linda Hill, Shirley Bransom; and numerous friends.

I've known Freddie since we were in high school together and he's always been a good friend and a good man. I will always remember his sense of humor and the fact that we remained friends throughout our lives, both as kids and adults. I will miss Freddie for a long time.

Fred was a co-worker of mine at the Tarrant County District Attorney. I was saddened to hear of his passing. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
