James Campbell Obituary

James L. (Jim) Campbell, age 79, passed away peacefully after an extended illness at Barrett Hospital on February 28, 2026. Born in Dillon, Big Jim was a lifelong resident of Beaverhead County. He graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1964, where he was a standout football and basketball player. He later attended Montana Western.

His lifelong passion was rodeo, and he was well-known in the rodeo community, as well as the ranching and agricultural communities of Beaverhead County.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret (Muggs) Carpita and father, Donald (Bud) Campbell. He is survived by his three brothers, Don (Barbara Chaffin), Ed (Susan Taylor), and Bob (Cara Pendleton), as well as several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks goes out to his caregivers and friends, Christy Flintoff, Kay Gaines, Marie Holt, and Cody Brown, and also to the wonderful, caring doctors, nurses, and staff at Barrett Hospital.

At Jim's request, there will be no service.

Jim was a friend and high school classmate. In the years since then until now, I always looked forward to and enjoyed being around him. To the brothers Campbell, my condolences.
Jim was a keeper.
