Barry Penland, son of Gene and Patricia (Baade) Penland, went to be with Jesus on August 2. Barry, who was born in the San Fernando Valley, worked at Lockheed for 20 years before retiring to be a caretaker for Atwater Church of Christ. He is survived by his father Gene, stepmother Evelyn, and sister Cynthia Ann Clarke. He was a great small engine repairman with a heart as big as Texas. Many relatives, friends, and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ will remember him fondly. A memorial service will be held at Church of Christ - 181 E. Broadway - Atwater on Saturday at 1pm. RIP Brother!!

Can't express the feelings of love we received from Barry's friends at the church in Atwater at Barry's memorial. He found his love of God, which was displayed ever so greatly by his church members and friends who had exactly the same qualities as Jesus had.

I knew Barry from Harbor High School in Santa Cruz. We played football together. He was a tough, able athlete, and when off the field, a gentle soul. I have found memories of Barry. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Gotta love this man... I talked to my daughter after his passing and asked her thoughts, she said, "who is going to take care of the speakers at church? Who is going to be across us at camp that can watch me play outside?" The man had shoes no one can fill. Loved everyone. Likewise, many, many, many, of us love him.
