Bruce Shepard Obituary

SHEPARD Bruce Alfred Shepard, born June 24, 1911 in Nelsonville, Ohio, quietly passed away in his sleep on October 9, 2010. Bruce was 99 years old, and a Veteran of WWII, serving his country in the U.S. Army. Bruce was a long time resident of Clearwater Beach, FL. Second to enjoying his family, fishing the Gulf of Mexico was his second passion. Grouper, saltwater catfish, grunts, and lady fish were some of his favorites in Florida to catch, not to mention fishing the Muskingum River, another one of his favorite fishing spots for big catfish and carp from sun up to sunset. Being a private pilot and flying a J-3 Cub in his younger years was his 3rd love. Bruce will be greatly missed by all family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Edna Ethel Shepard, his wife of 64 years Sadie Ellen Shepard, brother Fred Shepard and sister Betty Price (Shepard). Bruce is survived by his sister, Nancy Calland (Shepard); son, John A. Shepard (wife Tonya); daughters, Mary Ellen Calhoun (Shepard) and Martha Graham (husband Stewart); as well as five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will all miss his loving smile, the twinkle in his eyes and witty humor greatly. His family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, where his service will be at 12Noon. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate. Messages may be sent to his family by visiting www.cotnerfuneralhome.com

Uncle Bruce was a wonderful man. Mom said he was always the top salesman at the Chevrolet dealership, year after year. He never impressed me as the"pushy" type (of salespeople); he must have just had a gift for it. Your comment about the twinkle in his eye and his witty humor really rang true. I'm glad he got to see 99 years, but I will miss him. I pray the Lord gives you comfort in his absence.

Dear John,Mary Ellen,and Martha ( little Bruce ?),
We send our condolences to you and your families. Your loving tribute to your Dad in the Dispatch was how I thought of him.I am remembering a quite, gentle Uncle Bruce( picturing him in his bib overalls). I have fond memories of fun times at the camp ground when we were little.
I felt the love you gave to him and the love he gave you in your comments. Fred, Bruce,(my Mother Betty)and Nancy are special people.
