Dearest Jim,

I write today in advance of the memorial service tomorrow for dear Carol. I had hoped to be there for the service but am not certain at this writing. I did want you to know how much I appreciate your selfless devotion to the care of your wife. Like so many others, you have modeled for us the importance of fulfilling ALL of the wedding vows --- those of great joy and those of hard work and sadness. There certainly can be no regrets for the caring that you provided.

I recall with fondness our efforts together in the service of history. I do miss you and the entire Archives and History Commission. We offered the best that we had so that others might learn and remember.

Blessings on you and your family.
