Carolyn Barkow Obituary

Barkow Carolyn A. Barkow, age 65, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Sunrise of Worthington Reminiscence on June 19, 2017. Carolyn was born July 10, 1951 and as she so often told people, on The Ohio State University campus. Carolyn graduated from Bishop Hartley High School in 1969 and had a remarkable career after graduating from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing. She worked at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in the Critical Care Unit and then the Mobile Intensive Care Unit. This was followed by one of her most rewarding times, working first as a transport nurse for MedFlight of Ohio, followed by her true love, as a flight nurse MedFlight in their aircraft and helicopter. She was the base manager for their helicopter service at Lodi, Ohio until the time of her stroke in 2004. No longer able to continue as a flight nurse, she was fortunate to take her skills into a new direction, as an instructor for LifeLink, training medics and firefighters. Carolyn achieved her RN, CCRN, and EMT-P during her stellar career. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Virginia (Schritzinger) Farrell, sister-in-law Virginia Farrell. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 45 years, James; devoted sons, Scott J. Barkow, Eric P. Barkow; brothers, James Farrell, Charles (June) Farrell, Daniel (Vikki) Farrell, Robert (Suzanne) Farrell; sister-in-law, Patricia Fishking; brother-in-law, William Barkow; two beautiful Goddaughters, Megan Linsmier, Margaret Farrell; special aunt, Mary Ann Macioce; and a wonderful loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, a host of wonderful nurses, co-workers, friends, and her beloved lifelong friend, Sue Owens. She truly enjoyed spending time with her close cousins on Hill Island, MI. Family and friends may visit 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Rd. N., Pikcerington, OH 43147. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. James Klima, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Seton Parish Catholic Church, 600 Hill Rd. N., Pickerington, OH 43147. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Pataskala, OH. In honor of Carol's wishes, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd. Columbus, OH 43215.
