Cecil Swint Obituary

SWINT Cecil Edmond Swint, born in Oldtown, Kentucky, on August 3, 1929, passed away after a battle with renal cancer on August 3, 2008. Cecil was preceded in death by his mother and father Clifford and Catherine Swint, brothers Carl, Richard and Walter, and sister Ruthie. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Garnett; brothers, Bob, Sam, Louis, Charles and Kenneth; sisters, Hazel, Rose and Dorothy; sons, Steve; Cecil (Mary), Charles (Dawn), Nicklos (Nicci); daughters, Sue (Ron), Connie (Steve) and Sharlene (Bob); along with 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Cecil was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War with over 11 years of service to his country from 1949 to 1961. He received the National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal Korea, Korean Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Cecil was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1598. Cecil loved going fishing with his sons and grandsons. He had a special place for his daughters and granddaughters. He never met a person that left a stranger. He lived his life by his standards. He is loved and missed by all. No suits or ties please, as that wasn't our Dad. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Cecil's name to the Chalmers P. Wylie Veteran's Administration Outpatient Clinic, 543 Taylor Ave., Columbus, Ohio, 43203 or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the Nurses, Home Health Aides and Social Workers from Home Reach Hospice. Friends may visit the SHAW-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME CLINTONVILLE CHAPEL, 4341 N. High St., Wednesday, August 6th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A committal service with military honors will be held at Dayton National Cemetery. Sign the online guestbook at www.dispatch.com/obituaries
